Depends on your play style, and how ships are modded. royal frigate needs atleast 120 crew to do max cannon dmg with 16s. Royal frigatge is a excelent sniper, while vaisseau isn't as good at sniping, but can still do it. It really all depends on your playstyle. (for cannon grind, this is better)

Emma, snipers aren't overly worried about armor or bow turrets.
And for grinding, you aren't going to get one-shotted by npc's and you aren't lining up for bow shots, so ya, even with less armor and bow turrets.

you dont need sailors in order to be succesful, frigates are know for speed and cannon's, so basically a sniping ship and a very good one as even if you get it in melee, well thats why they created retreat bells and surgery.

In order to do sniping(you must at least have max damage which this ship cant delivered the max damage since to low in crew that why MF is worthless so as this ship)

maybe a 0/5 royal frigate is too small crew-wise, but you can do improvements to get the crew up to what you need. The ship is not worthless (I still prefer my official vaiss, but if you know what you're doing, this is a good ship)

I used an Indiaman for awhile and it is quite a nice ship. Cornelia, I managed to get 100+ crew and reaches it's full firepower.
I am wondering if you have used a Indiaman yet?

I recently made a 6/6 RF and I am pleased with the result. For npc grinding I feel that it's better than my 6/6 Vaiss. Not sure why or how Indiaman came into the conversation, they're two different ships that play different roles.

6/6 RF is a good ship, and can even do PVP as long you keep distances... so you need to be fast and agile. And for grind, yes, feel better than vaisseau. And for Indiaman, anyone can use any ship, but a maxed crew, iron/national hull clipper can be used to battle too, so dont see the point comparing indiaman with royal frigate

yes and no.i do use 14s not 16s, but it is better to incress crew wile you mod the ship. think of it this way if you are useing 14s not 16s your still not doing max damage coz your not useing 16s >.>

but it takes 2 mods to get over 120, and i meant in raw numbers do 5x14 with enough sailors hit more than 5x16 with... lets say 5 less than needed thats considering you may lose sailors in the battle.

for cannon based fights you still need to use vaiss which can use full cannons out of the SY until "super frigate"?
