Chinese wiki only says:
Even when member with skill dies the skill is still activated for other fleet members.

BTW just in case anyone don't know this already, combos only work when you and your ally are firing from the same side of your opponent (eg, if you guys "sandwich" your opponent there will be no combo even if you both hits land the same time). Normally combos give extra 20% damage I read from another guide sometimes the +20% damage applies to both players involved in the combo, other times only applies to one of the players and not the other, appears to be random.
