I played Uncharted waters 2: New Horizons a long time ago. As far as I remember sea battles, I couldn't engage enemy captain in a duel if my ship had less crew than his.
Maybe it works the same way in UWO? In such case trader with trading ship (small crew) could not challenge a pirate with melee (big crew) ship.

If merchants don't even need to equip cannons, have a sizable crew or have any decent maritime skills to compete with hardcore maritimers (cause they can just deck battle) then the BURDEN to initiate deck battle should be on them. At the very least they should have Assault Deck Battle skill on their ship. Why is the burden on us to slap a Deck Barrier on our ship to avoid being forced into deck battle?

Lodian and friends grinded land battle skills to the max. Does not change the fact that deck battle is replacing sea battle. Does not change the fact this is eliminating the most interesting part of the game for maritimers. It's not just about winning, it's about enjoyment. Imagine you are a trader who enjoys trading, then NM / CJ comes with a patch where other players can drag you into dungeons when you talk to NPC market master to trade, you can still profit, all you need to do is grind land battle, but would that be fun for you?

-NPCs can no longer loot equipment/items from defeated players in Land battle
-Apartment renovation costs reduced
-Reduce rounding times with rounding permits
-New farm mass production recipes

-Change to PvP deck duels. White named players cannot be deck dueled unless they agree.
-"Deck Barrier" optional skill now also increases your defense in Deck combat.

This increases your character's defense power and lowers the enemy's attack power in DECK BATTLE, not melee.
