PS logging into the game in the docks also works :)))

Donce is right. Also, the item finding skills each pet has are a bit deeper than I first realized, since I've found different items while collecting in different landing zones. For instance, while collecting in West Pohang my turkey found Tow Permits, which it didn't find in North America.

One thing though. I still don't know how to get the Intimacy past 120. Feeding the pet at the right time gets you there, but I haven't been able to break past that.

I managed to get my pet's intimacy to 200 using just food that he likes.
I have not been able to go passed that, and not totally sure if it even can go above 200.

You can't constantly force feed them to raise intimacy after a certain point. You either need to wait an unknown amount of days, or feed them when you get a prompt at sea. Even feeding em when they were "feeling playful" raised intimacy, though that could just be a consequence of having sailed x amount of days before last meal.

And the Breeder job has this skill as an expert skill, so +1 to your pet training rank.

I should probably mention that you can learn the skill from Queen Maria in Antwerp.

My pets intimacy is now 200, i was stuck at one moment too, feeding couldn't help. But i managed to break through while grinding rowing afk (sailing a lot is the key i guess). My pet wanted to play with me, and i used Pet Toy Collection items each time he wanted to play and it worked.

There's also a pair of new memorial albums "Footprints with friends" No.1 and No.2. I accidentally discovered it when my pet used its Area Search (Land) skill and got one of the related items. A quick look at the Japanese wiki shows that the items dug up are specific to certain landing zones.

Also, where do you get Pet Toy Collection items from?

The job quest is a 5* quest in Marseille's Adventure guild entitled "Walking Together". Quest requirements are listed as r5 biology, r5 pet training, and Dutch language. Completing the quest gives the job certificate "Animal Breeding Permit".

Quick quest, the steps are as follows:
1) Speak to Marseilles scholar
2) Speak to Amsterdam Pet Trainer

and with that quest is completed!

One question I do have about this is, what's the best way raise pet intimacy?

I've been just feeding as I sail but man, it is so damn slow. Anyone have any tips/techniques or knowledge about how best to do this? or any way to speed it up other than using the love collar (which doesn't seem to really affect intimacy gain as much as I'd hoped)? I made the "pet toy collection" but never seem to be able to use them.

Ferrolio

It can feel slow. Especially from 100-200 intimacy, but just carry 200 food on you and feed them every so often - even without a prompt - and you'll see a message saying your pet is happy or whatever. Definitely feed them if you see they're "hungry".

As for the toys - you just gotta pay attention to the prompt you get that your pet is "bored, or feeling playful" and use them then.

The only real trick to it is sailing around a bunch, and feeding/playing with them as often as possible.

I don't know if different pets gain intimacy faster than others. That is something I haven't tested. But it went quick enough with a cat, and meerkat for me. But then, I do spend a fair bit of time at sea.

From my experience raising a turkey and a red panda, you can feed then back to back until no more intimacy is obtained (it varies when for each), then wait until they prompt you to feed/play with them at sea. At least it gives an audible ping whenever they want to play or feed. It's slow, but at the very least their abilities activate often enough as to make then interesting to use.

Pets each have their own skills, which can only be unlocked by acquiring/ranking this skill and feeding them their favorite food for Trust points. There's a list of them found here:

blog.daylights.cn/pets-guide-by-yuto/ -- English guide written by yuTo. Pretty comprehensive, though a WIP as of this posting with some sections not yet fully updated. (There's a lot of information to put in, of course...)
gvo.gamedb.info/wiki/?Pet -- Japanese guide; you'll need to run it through a translator, but it has a bit more information and may sometimes be ahead of Maris server data-wise. Some details may differ from Maris, such as certain cash shop pets being available in different ways than on Maris.

I'll leave entry of the pets' various abilities on this DB to the next generation (IE, you who are reading this comment) though; that's half the fun after all. Cheers.

A little digging has turned up a Japanese blog featuring fairly comprehensive list of what items Pets can find while using their search skills on land. The full landing area pet search guide links (presumably up to date through Lost Memories Chapter 1 as no new landing areas were added in that expansion) can be found here:

blog.goo.ne.jp/cafe-hiyoko/e/58d7260fd571ec1887799156f6a9379a (Europe / Near East)

blog.goo.ne.jp/cafe-hiyoko/e/e16fc2d4c17955534c09d95db2f62a4f (North and South America)

There's a wealth of information in those pages. If you take the time to translate and link it all together, you'd know where to find anything in the world on land with the right pet at your side. I sadly do not have time enough to do a project of that scale... so you'll have to make do with this abbreviated list of things I found to be the most interesting (mainly Memorial Album entries, but a few unrelated ones as well). I don't know where else to put them, so... sorry in advance for the wall o' spam.

Note: where landing points have an inland area, their loot table is identical to the outer LP as well, which is why you'll see such areas (West Candia and Inland Crete) separted by a / sign.

Once again, that is not a complete list, just my idea of a 'highlights reel'; I do hope you'll work together and organize all that data on the blog yourselves -- it's a very useful resource. You may want to create backups as well, just in case the blog writer ever decides to close up shop or gets hacked/banned, which would wipe all their hard work from the face of the 'net. And please excuse any errors on my part in case I mistranslated an item, or if Maris server should differ slightly from JP server on content.

With a list like that, perhaps some of you may be wondering: finding that stuff sounds fun, but which is the right pet for me? Well, I would have to say your play style determines your ideal pet choice. Still, yuTo's guide once again offers a lot of helpful information there, and as yuTo even offered their own two ducats on which pets might benefit players best, I'll do the same for my fellow item hunters only by suggesting they consider the following pets in addition to those endorsed by yuTo's guide:

Cat
Quarters Rank: 1
Skills: Area Search: Land (R2 Pet Training + Intimacy 30) | Area Scouting (R4 Pet Training + Intimacy 70) | Pet Plunder: Land (R9 Pet Training + 170 Intimacy)

Chicken
Quarters Rank: 1
Skills: Area Search: Land (R3 Pet Training + Intimacy 50) | Additional Discovery (R4 Pet Training + Intimacy 70) | Pet Plunder: Land (R7 Pet Training + 130 Intimacy)

Chinchilla
Quarters Rank: 1
Skills: - Additional Discovery (R2 Pet Training + Intimacy 30) | Area Search: Land (R4 Pet Training + Intimacy 70) | Additional Discovery (R9 Pet Training + 180 Intimacy)

Armadillo
Quarters Rank: 2
Skills: Pet Plunder: Land (R2 Pet Training + Intimacy 30) | Area Search: Land (R6 Pet Training + Intimacy 110) | Additional Discovery (R9 Pet Training + 170 Intimacy)

Kiwi
Quarters Rank: 1
Skills: Area Search: Land (R3 Pet Training + Intimacy 50) | Additional Discovery (R6 Pet Training + Intimacy 120) | Pet Plunder: Land (R9 Pet Training + 180 Intimacy)

Dodo
Quarters Rank: 4
Skills: Area search: Land (R3 Pet Training + Intimacy 50) | Additional Discovery (R6 Pet Training + Intimacy 120) | Pet Plunder: Land (R7 Pet Training + 140 Intimacy)

The benefit of these choices is that they are (mostly) very easy to equip as pets early on, and their skillsets favor making discoveries and procuring/collecting on land for item finds, which in my opinion is the easier way to hunt down those items listed above. You can even beat up land battle enemies as well, if that's your thing (and I was an adventurer who enjoyed doing that) for extra item hunting chances.

A small drawback to those suggested pets is that the Armadillo and Chinchilla are R2 Quarters and are medium-difficulty biology quests in the Caribbean compared to the R2 Quarters Dog pet, while the Kiwi is an Oceania biology discovery/pet quest which is quite far away to go hunting for. The Dodo, obviously, is R4 Quarters and those take time to build up to. Still, if you have good friends or helpful company mates, they're not impossible to acquire by any means. And there are always other, more interesting pets to choose from that can get the job done as well... *cough* Komodo Dragon (Gray) *cough* Those ones just get my recommendation for the 'rugged explorer' types looking to start quickly. (Or who feel like the doomed Dodo deserves more love.)

Sorry again about the mess. I felt it better to consolidate the bulk of the data in one place rather than put it all in the individual landing area pages, because I'm laz- I mean because it's easier to reference until someone creates a fully translated version of the JP pet land item blog guide, naturally. Don't worry, I'll be quiet for a while again before... well, I hope this is of help to you. Cheers, and great online pet rearing to you.

If raised to r15 base, this skill unlocks the following title: Master Breeder

Fishing/collecting with area search pets raises skill prof a little, but the best tip I received from a player named BOP was to sail back and forth from Ushuaia to Hobart. Cheers, and good luck, pet trainers...

Not sure about Fine dye being listed at Colorado Plateau as all I was getting was Exquisite Dye from this location

Every zone (land or sea) has 4 things your pet can find, so if you got Exquisite Dye and 3 other things in Colorado Plateau, you can be sure that there is nothing else to find.

There are two ways to gain proficiency from this skill:

1. Your pet performs an action (such as finding an item).
2. You need to sail a certain amount of days and distance (yes, you need to actually move from one place to another).

The second method is obviously more reliable. A good friend of mine has been testing it and while they haven't finished yet, there seems to be a cap to how much proficiency you can earn in a single trip.

And for those who might wonder about Donce's post in 2018, that was a short-lived bug which has long since been patched out.

RoyHunter

Ok lets get in to this. From my limited testing. There is a cap of prof you can get on a sailing trip. Seems it is 125 prof per trip. That can be increased with any skill prof bonus. For instance during double skill events after maint the prof gain is 250.

I tested sailing several days using a ShaRog and was hitting the cap around day 32-34 depending on winds. It was all about speed. I then jumped in a Graduation Sambuk and sailed for 34 days and only got 83 prof.

My observations are distance is your goal. Faster ships will hit the skill cap sooner. Using ship speed items should hit that cap faster as well.
