Dowsing rod is the item equivalent. One place it is available is the Marseilles item shop.

well i think standing in 1 place searching r7 item is faster than doing 2quests n sailing around inbetween maps which is wasting time

Ok then, how long do you think it'll take you to get to r10 search from r1 with just searching? a year? xd but seriosly that's not a bad way, but be mindful that you don't get an item with just one search, it takes you several or not 20 searching till you get an item and that's just 10-20 exp

And be prepared to spend 2 trillion on fish n nuts if you don't make it yourself.

Anyone know what rank of this skill is good for Gold Mining?

Duivel-666
10-24-2015
Hello Veri an company member told me he was finding gold nuggets with r1 search aswell, ofcourse not as much pieces as someone with like r9 or higher. So in this case i think we might say/state the higher the skill rank the better.

After refining:
> +2 search permanent
> Additional effect: "Fatigue Recovery with Discovery"
When a discovery is made, experienced gained is increased and fatigue is recovered.

Btw... Does anyone know what are the skills that can be refined?

Donce

from "nforum.ogplanet.com/uwo/forum_posts.asp?TID=636007"

Search - +EXP gained when finding a discovery with search, doing so relieves some fatigue

Recognition - +EXP gained when finding a discovery with search, doing so relieves some fatigue

Unlock - Additional treasure from treasure chests in dungeons

Ecological Research - +EXP gained when finding a discovery with search, doing so relieves some fatigue

"X" Trade (all of them) - Enables an "X Order" skill that costs 100 vigor and which purchases 10% of a normal PO amount each time it is activated. Can be used repatedly without port resetting, allowing purchase of unlimited trade goods so long as the player has vigor and cargo space.

Swordplay - Reduce the vigor cost of Assault/Gunfire/Tactics/Guard

Tactics and Guard - Reduces enemy vigor when used

Assault and Gunfire - Cancels enemy items used when you use Assault/Gunfire

Gunnery - Reduce vigor cost of Accuracy/Ballistics/Penetration/Reloading by a few points

Firefighting - Free automatic use of Repair skill when you successfully firefight.

more skills will be available in future updates. See the same post in forum :)

If you do a quick search for an item, you'll notice that among the results is a column marked "Link Code". If you copy/paste that code, or type it out exactly as you see it, then it becomes possible to link things in comments. That took me ages to figure out how to do, even with the help of others, so don't feel bad.

Come to think of it, another missing +2 Search (+2 Appraisal, +1 Navigation) hat is: Wanderer of the Ages Hat

This hat is a reward for doing Adventure-related Historical Events, and requires the Pioneer of History title, also a reward from those kinds of historical events, to equip.

R10 Search at West Siberian Plain accessed via Baltic Sea North yielded me the following:

Iron Axe
Dull Longsword
Rusted Estoc
Expert Fisherman's Gear
Violin
Traveller's Notes

R15 added nothing new.

R13 Search at Caucasus accessed via Black Sea East Coast yielded me the following:

Main Gauche
Taqiyah
Turban
Dull Longsword
Bichaq
Fishing Gear
Iron-wire Hunting Net
Dull Cutlass

Some more unlisted Search boosting equipment:

Clothing/Armor Slot:
Shirt and Denim Pants (Red) -- +2 Search, +1 Appraisal, unisex, 6k fame to equip.
Obtained: San Francisco, at the Gold Nugget Appraiser; it costs 18k Large Golden Nugget points per outfit, and the Appraiser's selection changes weekly, so it isn't always available.

Baji Jeogori (Green) -- +2 Search, +1 Collection, unisex, 20k fame to equip.
Obtained: Songsunri Ruins dungeon; lower floor hidden passage (the one that has rock-hewn walls and has its treasure chests spread out at a distance) treasure chest. Somewhat rare.

Special Ropa/Falda (color custom) -- +2 Search, Recognition, Navigation. Ropa is Male-only, Falda is Female-only. 500 fame to equip.
Obtained: These outfits were only available from the Age of Revolution Premium Bottle released on 5/1/2017. Your fellow UWO players are the only way to get them now.

Head Slot:
Fedora Hat (brown/white/pink) -- +1 Search, unisex, 8k fame to equip.
Obtained: Sewing R12 recipe from the MA reward recipe book, "North America Pioneer Clothes Sewing Book V.1."; the recipe itself calls for Cotton Fabric x15, Leather cords x10, and Suede x5.

The recipe book is a bit hard to get since it involves plundering for most of the MA items, and an Aide with Sewing +1 to create one of the MA items as well.

Hand Slot:
Western Gloves -- +1 Search, +1 Throwing. Unisex, 6k fame to equip.
Obtained: Plundered from Poacher Lv31 enemies found at Tacoma Outskirts, and North America West Coast. It can be obtained even without Plunder skill, but it could take a little longer.

Regarding rare items now, if you weren't on time/lucky enough, to get either of this Cake Hat or this Cake Hat which are +1 and +2 search respectively, try the company shops. Then there are these Hermes Boots with +1.
Also another foot item Work Boots called "Work Boots" with +1 which, if I am not mistaken, are gold rush rewards and finally these Japanese Sandals..

I inquired via support ticket whether or not having a high Search skill rank is of any importance when mining for gold or gemstones. The response I received was: "having a higher ranked search skill will always be beneficial when utilizing the skill in the above scenarios."

Likewise, I asked about the colors on the Surveying map during mining, and was told: "The colours depict the amount of gold nuggets that reside in those areas. Generally, the amount of nuggets decreases based on this hierarchy:
Red > Green > Yellow > Blue > Grey
These colours can shift over time so it's a good idea to keep an eye on your survey map."

Good to know. If the gold/gemstone mining guide still exists out there, somebody can add that information to it if it's missing. And if it wasn't, apologies for sharing old data.

Lastly, [CA]Huseyin_Gazi informs me that this archive map is great for grinding Search/Unlock/Archaeology skills: Map of Roman History Book

Cheers, and great search skill spamming to you.

Sorry to bother you guilder are you certain that red>green>yellow>blue>grey is the hierarchy for ore abundance?. Its just that it would make more sense color wise to swap green and yellow instead of using opposite colors for the highest yielding spots.
Again sorry to be a bother but Im gonna spend the next two weeks mining and I want to be sure Im not mining in the wrong spot lol.

Bael
10-14-2021
The colors are in the correct order, but it doesn't matter much, the difference is very low, mining on yellow or mining on green is practically the same.

Guilder
10-14-2021
It's no bother. I was quoting the support ticket; I do agree that it's odd to my mindset that the colors would be in that order. Perhaps the color hierarchy makes more sense to Eastern players or something? As Bael said, the difference is fairly low, so don't worry too much about it.

Anyone have info if overcaping (20+) this skill helps to get better large gold nuggets to San Francisco?

CA-RvZ
05-23-2023
Nope

Guilder
05-23-2023
As I understand it, the most important element for locating Large Gold Nuggets (and in Africa, Large Gemstones) is the color of your digging map. In order of worst to best:

Gray -> Blue -> Yellow -> Green -> Red

Having a high search rank does help, but all adventure skills cap at r20. Best of luck to you! Cheers.
