Helping others with quests is all part of the game and most players are happy to do so if they can. But it's actually now possible to receive this job card from Diogo Ortiz (Portuguese NPC sailing in a fleet of x3 Galleons from Porto to Lisbon) by using a Letter of Appreciation from Seafarers x1 and thereby skip the entire quest chain required for it, if you really want to.

Letter items are awarded for rescuing NPCs at sea and the job card / endorsement effect lasts 60 minutes once activated. There are other possible job card acquisitions as well, depending on the NPCs you talk to... or you could go after other rewards as well. Cheers, whatever your choice may be.
