u can only learn if u have a job that favorites this skill, since it has no teacher. So get the job, go to GM.

Its just a guess...but maybe this skill affects max sailing speed...needs some testing to comprove, but i really thing it does increase, im feeling im sailing faster with it at rank 11 now that im on a job that have it as favourable than before, when it was capped at rank 10

Fanta

i think it doesnt increase speed, just longer lasting

Chester

Yeah just long lasting

This is the best skill in the game. Why? Because once you get it, it becomes a crutch that you take for granted. Try going back to manual sail adjusting after using this skill for a day.

Uhm.. maybe you're on a different boat now than before? Don't forget, that ships have proficiency levels you have to fill up by sailing a lot.. And that some waters have speedups...

Does each level of this skill just extend the Sail handling duration time? Or does it also increase speed as well?

Sylvia

Just duration, afaik. Same with most of these sailing skills.

At r10 you can go 4 days without having to use it again.

Starting in Age of Revolution, Sail handling will also boost your ship sailing speed, 1% for every rank. It's not earth shattering but it will help just a little bit. And at least it will make those booster items a tad more useful.

Rufas

Actually it's 1% for every 2 ranks, capping at 10% at R20.

Confirming that this skill is NOT refinable, pretty shame though :( I've grinded this to R15 to test it... Ah well, at least an headstart for the update xD

In addition to the speed boost, sail handling is now a passive ability. Nice if you need an extra space on your hotbar.

There are exactly four unlisted weapons which give +1 to this skill (and also Swordplay and Leadership). They are:

The Sword of the God of the South Wind
The Sword of the God of the North Wind
The Sword of the God of the West Wind
The Sword of the God of the East Wind

Released in Japanese servers as part of a Pre-Gran Atlas launch event which we of GAMA sadly missed, we have only (as of this posting) just seen the release of the Sword of the God of the South Wind (red) weapon. The stats between each sword are identical; that said, who knows if or when the other swords may appear in future bottles/events.

Unlisted foot equips:

Pilgrim of the Ages Boots - +1 Sail Handling/Steering/Frugality. It's randomly awarded from the three reward chests earned during World Clock related Historical Events.
Hermes' Sandals - Hermes' Sandals. +1 Sail Handling; was only available from a 2016 Mystery Bottle drop. Full details on its corresponding page.

Aide 1 crew or required crew? does it make a difference?

edge
11-16-2017
as far as i know 20% less speed if you, your aide, someone you are towing or his aide have even 1 less than required.
now between anyone of the former having 1 less than required and all having only 1 sailor shouldn't be difference.

You need to have this skill for auto sail?

Blake.C
02-01-2018
No. Auto sail ALWAYS works and is ALWAYS on weather or not you have Sail handling. What Sail handling does now is give 0.5% speed boost for each rank.
