Mei Hua

grind this skill by rowing whether you got 225 or 5 crew its how many days at sea with skill on and moving that you gain xp for

upto r6 is pretty easy after that its 1xp per game day at sea ok

the reason players have 5 sailors is because you dont have to make port as often fr supplies

Sublime

For me ... I thinks its quite easy to rank up this skill ...
Actualy sail handling is the harded than rowing to rank it up ..

Wen zhi
05-29-2012
sail handling is easier cause you can only rank row in a row boat but can rank sail handle in any boat

Carla

is there some kinda formula explaining speed boost per rank / number of oars etc etc

id like to know whether ranking this to r15+++ is worth it or will i get to a stage where the fastest galley in the game wont keep up with trader/adventurer ships of certain lvl

in light of the fact, that i been asking this question for 4 days and i still have zero comment let alone any advice or information from anyone!!!

i can only believe that this skill is pretty useless after a certain lvl of ship

In all fairness that was a pretty complex question. Try asking people in game like your company members or friends.

Carla

here let me see if this helps. non-combat, open seas, long-range voyages, rowing won't keep up.

Combat, board the trader before he can get back up to speed, you're going to see a difference between r10 and r15.

I wanted post link but it wont let me ... well, it'll take 1600 hours to grind this to r14 (japan wiki info). Oh and when some skill event is on like 1.5x it wont help you with rowing proficiency but 2x events are good for rowing as you'll get 2 proficiency instead of 1 (after r6? it'll add 1 proficiency each day) while you row

when grinding this skill is it best to use + items or no items?

Nicola
10-09-2013
Skill prof isn't affecting if you wear boosters or not. Most people choose not to wear them because more rowing = more speed = more distance over time. It's easier to afk sail with no boosters lol. All up to personal choice.

i went out rowing with only 1 crew. i went afk while my ship is rowing itself. after a while, i come back to see white flag besides my name and my only crew was gone. i hit rescue button with a hope to save my one sailor so that he can continue his rowing task. however, four people show up instead. i am very shocked by this turn of event. who are the other 3 people? where did they come from? due to this i cannot even let my guard down on my own ship. now, i found myself not able to sleep at night in this situation. i hope someone can resolve my problem so that i can get my good night sleep again.

Natascha
10-13-2013
I can solve your problem right now.

"i went out rowing with only 1 crew. i went afk while my ship is rowing itself."

This is STUPID. You can't protect against storms, even if using a veil. You WILL end up sunk.

Expecting to AFK sail for any length of time isn't realistic. Problem solved, play the game.

Natascha
10-13-2013
lol stupid lies , a storm usually drain about 30% ship dura , bring some wood for auto fix , and hopefully they will repair fast enough between storms , with r5 survival u wont lose crew from storm , and the vigour will last in 2 ~ 3 hours , so u sleep about 8 hours , 3 hours it will row itself , 3 ~ 5 hours white flag , better than nothing

Sonia
10-13-2013
I don't know where you sailed Hernanes, but most likely a pirate, either NPC or player, caught and sunk you. If you plan to go AKF for a long while while rowing your need to buy a blue flag, or at least use caution skill or high look out ship skill.

Theo
10-13-2013
well, i did put HL on my galley. i sailed near the invisible wall down south. i also got an aide with 100 navigator trait with breakwater skill to prevent leak and sail straight east or west. the longitude should be at least 7k+ while sailing or you'll hit the island where hobart is. had to check once in a while to rescue sailor or change back course if hit by squall. but, still i got 3 free mermaids each time i rescue my 1 sailor. as for storms, i only encounter it once, at least that i'm aware of. miraculously, my 1 crew managed to survived. probably because of breakwater aide skill too. not too sure since i only realized it when the storm just ended.

you need to fill a form on UWO forum, support section. if you have had anything to do with URB then you may have been hacked, if URB knows your facebook profile, they have your main Email. if they have your account name, such as posting on the UWO forum then your account name is displayed, then it's not hard for URB to hack you. if someone has hacked you, talk to GMs asap, they could track the transactions between you and another character and hopefully return your items etc with a bit of luck.

what rowboat is best for grinding this ?

Holfina

I have no experience with this skill, but I do not think that the type of boat you use matters, then again I think I recently heard that it depends on the number of crew that you have, could be wrong though

Should I turn it off when making turns like we do with emergency acceleration?

jperana
06-23-2014
Yes if your ship does not have rowing assistance

gameklaas
06-24-2014
No you do not need to deactivate this skill, you won't get turn penalty if your ship has over 14 turn. however, the speedloss you get from turning with it still exists, just like the penalty you get from turning from sails, oars and active rowing skill give that penalty aswell, when you have over 14 turn, you don't use rowing assist to increase turning, but to eliminate the speedloss-penalty you get from it

just want to share how i play rowboats in battle.. when chasing for melee i have row/DSD/eva on.. this skill set gives defense and speed.... now when im already near the enemy ill cancel row turn aboardage on and take a turn to board.. reason... i got 2 defensive skills and no rowing so after the melee i dont have any turn penalty=crit dodge... you can also cancel aboardage during the melee so you can turn row/cannon skills/sea mine removal/DHP or whatever you want after retreat ^^ just sharing sorry for bad english

Lena

a friend of mine told me that if someone camp my butt at close distance i should use aboardage and melee him right after the victim escape , well i tried , usually i'll be dead , maybe im just not him

When it comes to "grinding" this skill, is there a most profficent way? Most of the time i see players just AFK rowing in a straight line. Is this the best way? Does rowing earn more prifficiency in battle? High waves? In the later days? While turning?? Any tips are greatly appreciated on this insanely boring grind.

H.-Gazi
08-30-2015
I am afraid nothing will increase the proficiency of rowing except NC items and having the skill favoured to half the time consume. Worst case is that following someone DOESN'T count :(

I recommend you to afk grind rowing or sailing the whole time with the oarship for battle or adventuring. What most helps is that you get this:
> Thunder god item (x2.25)
> Thunder king item + Empress/skill note (x2.1)

Both will allow you to gain 2 proficiency per day instead 1 after R6. This will save greatly your time :-)

Throwing in my experience on grinding this skill:
-Choose a job that favors rowing: Brigand is the cheapest.
-Grind afk using tow permits to autonav from Cairo to Nantes
-use light galley(LG): Slowest row ship from my experience. (I also modded my LG with out-of-range cargo for all -20 penalties during each mod to really slow it down)
-remove all sail ship parts, and get ships sails damaged/ripped.
-equip iron plates -11 H sails & v sails
-equip figurehead Quetzalcoatl for +7 fatigue relief and +7 crises protection (Sculpting- Caribbean divine beast: Jamaica invest - 1.2m)
-remove all oxford ship speed skills if active
-keep at least 1m on you (i keep 5m which is plenty). Dont worry about npc attacks. They don't attack in safe waters using autonav, but i use caution anyway for the grind along with survey so i know how close i am to destination.
-keep about 50 timber on you for repairs from storms etc. Never had my ship sink from storms with r10 repair
-load the rest of your cargo with food & water evenly.
-keep maximum amount of vigor food (400+)
-set timer according to how much fatigue builds so that you can pop vigor food when fatigue is almost maxed or vigor is low. Fatigue will accumulate faster the longer you are out to sea so adjust timer accordingly.

Boosts:
-DONT USE GEAR!!! Its easy to forget to check its dura when afk sailing (havent tested this with Sword of the Sea People +2 row yet, though i dont think weapons lose dura when sailing)
-Use aide with +1 row skill. I like Io, but choose one for your needs.

-Optional boosts:
I prefer to use skill notes and either a 7 day or 30 day 50% proficiency rate acquisition. (you can also use Battle skills Instruction: +3 for all maritime skills for 24 hours but this is a really long grind, more than a month unless you don't need sleep, and that can get expensive.)

Once you refine you get permanent +2 row as well. So get back out there and max rowing again! lol

Small note: Weapons, like any other piece of equipment, can lose durability while at sea -- unless they have an Item Effect attached to them. (EX Effect equipment will not count as Item Effect and still lose durability, too.) Currently I know of no Rowing + equipment with Item Effects.

I don't know where to ask this so I will write in this section: does anyone know a ship with oars that is good for both trading and fighting, for being safe if they attacking you but also not too much slow for long voyages?

Gudebuddha
05-16-2023
Depends who exactly "they" are, but in short all "Galleass" are basicly a Hybrid between Trade and Battle.

Like Venetian Galleass or Ottoman Galleass, there are some more and also chash variants ofc, so the decision would depend on your levels and your budget.

Marfisa

Gudebuddha
05-17-2023
I see, to be frank, you lacking both battle levels and budget for that plan to work.

For now i would recommand sticking to something like a Trading Clipper for trading. Using Caution and avoiding pirates. In case you get attaacked use Tribute Goods for Brigands to get away prom NPC pirates and Fine Tribute Goods (Large Ships) to get away from player pirates.

If you have some more questions chat me up ingame. My IGN is also "Gudebuddha".

do you get rowing prof if you are following someone in a fleet?

Guilder

That works for some skills (Sail Handling, Steering, Pet Training, etc.) but it does not work for Rowing. You gain 0 prof as long as you are following someone in fleet.

I just noticed you can grind this skill by sailing with minimum speed (sails barely opan) with same efficiency.

This way, if you let your ship sailing around E. mediterranean sea and go to sleep, it is less likely to be on far seas when you wake up!

(I do this when i run out tow permits)

V_I

It's also possible to do the following:

1. Take the Ganador transport to Command Center
2. Start a mission with Maymay the beginner newbie Ganador
3. Set sail, hit rowing, and come back in 30 minutes when the mission fails to restart the process.

This is useful as you can use any rowboat for this, since you'll never arrive at a location, the NPC ships are too weak to cause any real damage to medium/high level ships, food/water are free in Ganador docks, and all but a few disasters cannot occur at sea in Ganador missions.

The only drawback is that you need to return every 30 minutes to start the mission again, but if you're not going to be afk for hours at a time or are expecting to play with friends soon, this is a nice, relaxing way to casual row grind.
