Anyone who's played on other servers know what skill this will be when it gets to GAMA? My guess is Astronomy...
Hafus05-12-2014
Its translates as Astronomy, it is linked to a new job that will be released called Astronomer.....but no idea how it will work
ReaD05-12-2014
sadly...we need to wait a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time for it to reach GAMA as it is current patch for japan server which is GRAN ATLAS, Chapter 2....my guess is a list of discovery then?
Guilder05-12-2014
From what I've been able to translate so far, this skill will allow us to make constellation-themed discoveries at sea. Should be an interesting new branch of quests!

Theo
05-12-2014
the job seems to be interesting though
crucaior05-12-2014
yep
it seems astrology... hope it gives much money ^^
Me05-13-2014
From what I've been able to gather, the skill is Astronomy, and yes, there are supposed to be a bunch of new Adventure quests that require the skill once it is brought into the server. Also, from what I understand, when the skill was brought into play on the other servers, everyone got an extra (51st) base skill slot as well. If true, let's hope the GAMA server players get that as well.
Guilder03-18-2015
According to a friend's research, the following items will boost this skill (Astronomy):

Special Quadrant - +1 Geography, +1 Astronomy, Effect: Surveying ("Custom Quadrant" Mercator reward: chart Greenland seas)
Amenhotep IV's Headdress - +1 Astronomy ("Amenhotep 4 Crown" Abu Simbel lower floor, sold for 45,000 Roman Coins in hidden shop)
Astronomer's Robe - +1 Recognition, +1 Astronomy ("Astronomer Robe"; produced via r15 sewing recipe from Memorial Album "Starry Story (No.2)" reward book)
12 Zodiac Pendants - +1 Astronomy (certain high level Astronomy quest rewards)

One source says it's from the "10th Anniversary Box" of UWO available in Asia:
tyojyuhei.web.fc2.com/dol_arm.html
But I also see a screenshot showing it from a shipwreck from the White Sea:
apple9999.blog73.fc2.com/blog-date-20150313.html
Either way, we probably won't see this available in GAMA for quite some time.
Kossmynn03-30-2015
nice one, Guilder! checked that link and also saw those... scrolls/maps? any idea what are they? anything to do with salvaging in Northern Passage? ty
Guilder03-31-2015
Based on what I've found so far, and I'll admit there is very little, it seems like those scrolls are special Shipwreck Maps from the 10th Anniversary Box edition of UWO. Each one reveals the location of a shipwreck in a certain sea (the one used in the blog is "白海の沈没船地図", or 'Wrecks map of the White Sea'.) It may be that those wrecks and their loot can only be found with by using those scrolls, but it's really too early to say for sure. Wish I could read Japanese, heh.
Guilder06-25-2015
Since I can't find the outfit on the DB at the moment... a unisex outfit called "Special Astronomer's Robe" is being released in honor of Chapter 2: Astronomy's release. Stats: +3 Astronomy, +2 Recognition, +1 Frugality.

Needless to say, that'll be a very handy way to jump-start your Astronomy skill leveling.

If you're looking for a good place to turn in your astronomy map discoveries, Galileo Galilei's estate is one good place to do it.
Curious06-27-2015
Quest: The Missing Man(?) I'm not sure if this is the exact name of the quest because I turned it in without really paying attention to the name by mistake, but I remember it as this.
Obtained in St. Petersburg Adventure Guild
Requirements: Nordic language (I don't have Nordic but it popped for me anyway)
Guide: Go to the church in Stockholm and talk to the boy. Some dialogue will appear. Just like with your nation's story or quests like the Tenochtitlan quests, you will also be asked questions which you will be given two or three answers to choose from.
Then, go to the bar. More dialogue.
Next is the Lubeck church. Initiate dialogue.
After that, go to the hamburg church. Talk to the boy again.
Next, talk to the boy again, this time outside of the bar in hamburg.
Lastly, go back to Stockholm and talk to the boy, which will be located outside of the harbor port.
Curious06-27-2015

Destry106-27-2015
For astronomy discoveries it doesn't matter what the coordinates are. You just have to be in the correct sea and use recognition at the right time. That's usually at night, but sometimes at sunset or sunrise. Also you can't make the discovery when it is raining/storming/snowing

H.-Gazi06-27-2015
There are some astronomy discoveries that can be made without map or quests by just using recognition. In this situation you need to be in the right sea area + right Age (chronoquests) + right timing to discover it. Sometimes on the right spot is also necessary. These discoveries are often required to do the subsequent quests of Astronomy.

Alright then, Destry. Looks like my work here is done then. *Flies away*
Destry106-28-2015
Sorry, didn't want to take away from your fun ;)
Guilder06-28-2015
I don't see anything wrong with continuing to contribute quest walkthroughs, since the spreadsheet gives general information, not a step-by-step process for each discovery. (It's still a very useful spreadsheet, make no mistake.) My thanks to all involved in the project, either way. It's been quite helpful to me, and doubtlessly many others, too.
Egw07-01-2015
Did anybody do The Star of the Goddess of Beauty and remember the steps? My friend is stuck after collecting two clues. Apparently he needs to talk/read in west carib somewhere, but can't figure out where exactly.
Guilder07-01-2015
Haven't done it, but I think I found the quest in a JP database:
1. Athens archive scholar × 2
2. scholar of Merida trip × 2
3. Merida priests length × 2
4. visible at sunset in the west Caribbean waters
Source: gvdb.mydns.jp/db/module/QuestDB/action/QuestShow?id=3766
Hope that's the right quest for your friend's sake.
Egw07-01-2015
Yeah thanks, that's accurate enough (priests length = high priest). All the talking that needs to be done after Athens is in Merida, confirmed.

Taipan09-13-2015
Just curious, are there any new Aides in future updates that get this skill?
IGN: CullumStraun
Guilder09-30-2015
Taipan: To date, no Aides exist with Astronomy as an innate skill. Regarding future updates, there's some new information about JP's "Atlantis - Atlantic Ocean" update (due out this month):
gamecity.ne.jp/dol/developer/new_updata2015_10.htm
It will become possible to -add- the Astronomy skill to aides. But that's a long ways off for GAMA, and there's a marked difference between an aide that comes with Astronomy naturally, and having to -add- the skill using an item to do so.
V_I11-23-2015
So, there are Astronomical discoveries "in the wild", and their availability is related to World Clock periods and Adept of Age titles. If I discovered one, then reported it to Galileo in Pisa, could I then find the same "wild" discovery again, like with archive map discoveries? Or would I have to actually lose the discovery card first before I could "find" it again?
Egw11-23-2015
Non-astronomer's uneducated guess: these wild discoveries would probably work the same way fishing discoveries that are also wild. What happens with those? For sure you can't rediscover the same fish again if you have the card, and I don't know what happens when you loose the card? I don't think I've ever managed to loose a fishing card, I wonder if it's even possible at all?
Guilder11-24-2015
Egw's guess lines up with my own findings. Otherwise, all you'd have to do is find an Astronomical discovery in the same sea zone as a town with a discovery reporting NPC in it, and then discover/report/discover/report, over and over, until your Astronomy skill was maxed. As for losing cards, Treasure Hunt synthesis, Lima/Caribbean/SEA City Official donations, and losing in Debate Tournaments are the only way to lose them apart from ornament creation... it ought to be possible for fish and Astronomy cards to be lost, under those conditions. But it still wouldn't be possible to do it more once every blue moon.
Destry111-25-2015
Yes, I think you will have to lose the card in order to be able to redo the discovery.
That would be in line with fishing and shipwreck discoveries. You can only get those again after losing the card. I confirmed this for fish and shipwreck discoveries, but I haven't lost an astronomy card so far.
H.-Gazi04-04-2016
The maximum rank of Astronomy will be raised at the following updates:
To Rank 13 at Chapter 1 of Atlantis part 1.
To Rank 15 at Chapter 1 of Atlantis part 2.
To Rank 16 at Chapter 2 of Atlantis part 3.

What should I do to get this information about me?
"It sounds like someone called [XXX] has discovered a new astronomical object!"
Destry102-06-2018
Every 3 days + x hours a new astronomical object is available to discover. So keep in mind the time of the last object discovered (you can see this at any adv mediator). Then just keep using recognition in each new sea region (you also need astronomy skill, r1+).
For the rest, you just have to be lucky to come across the right sea zone at the time that the discovery appears, and that another player is not faster than you are.
Destry102-06-2018
*Afterwards, if you are the first to discover this object, you need to report the discovery to an adv mediator or guild master.

5 years after my earlier comment, one aide is confirmed to have +1 Astronomy skill: Muriel. She is one of 8 new Rescue NPC aides due to be released in the future. You may preview her skill set (and that of the other new aides) here:
www.inven.co.kr/board/dho/498/18183
Note: As of this comment, we are currently in update Chapter 2.5; Maris must go to Chapter 3 -> Chapter 3.5 -> "Beyond the Vision" to reach these new aides. It's to be hoped that like the 6 Rescue NPC aides before them, the new 8 aides will not become UWC-only.
My thanks to Beomi for forwarding me the list, and for the fine investigative work of Adventure.N (and any others who may have been involved). Cheers. /toast
