These are actually good ships to go +90/+90 on because they can be used 6 or 8 levels by intermediate players. God cargo fairly fast easy sailing requirements

Will my speed be impeded if my aide run this without additional sails?

These are great often overlooked fairly cheap player made ships good for 3 purposes: 1) An iron one makes a great low-mid level battle grinder since 8/28/0 is fairly easy to reach, and at 135 crew, 48(3 X 16's) guns and 616 dura is the best low Battle level fighting ship you can get for under 7m that's good for grinding Cannon skills and has a high enough crew to fend off most melee attack attempts by NPC's in galley-type ships. 2) An r20 SB built one makes a decent aide ship with 661 cargo(more if you FS build it and use the right parts), and getting an aide to 8/28/0 is not that terribly hard to do. 3) An r20 SB built one makes a great alt ship for extra trade goods storage, and getting an alt to 8/28/0 is relatively easy to do.
