Scarlet bird
It was red, but not deep red. If pushed to say, I suppose you'd say it was scarlet. The London Archives has materials concerning this bird, please do collect what information you need there.

Nimble hunter
....A Bird with a scarlet body and pale face that flies about at tremendous speeds has been confirmed as inhabiting European parts. Uses its tail to great effect to bag its prey when hunting....

Not enough information
My collection lacks sufficient information concerning the use of the tail. If you wish to learn more about the scarlet bird, might I suggest making your way to Nantes. 'Tis said that rare glimpses of the birds may be had in the fields beyond the gates of Nantes.

One who knows birds
Crimson birds? Can't say as I have such information here. But then, if word is they can be seen outside of the gates, stands to reason the gatekeeper would know, yes?

Information from a witness
The crimson bird has a very peculiar, split tail. Helps to use the tail as a guide when searching them out. According to one chap who found success, he found them back some ways beyond the outside of the gate.

This then completes the information needed to investigate this crimson bird. Leaving the outside gates of Nantes, proceed farther past the cedar, and find the bird.

  This bird tends to fly in flocks, low to the ground. Its overlapping feathers are beautiful, looking somewhat like fish scales. It bends its wings in segments and use its tail like a ship's rudder to fly in at an angle to catch their prey.
