[IMG:01] Monk From a Faraway Land
I hear that the nation of China is terribly far from here. Who knows what this place would like to someone who walked that far... I also heard that Xuanzang wrote a travel account after he returned to his country... Someone at the temple in Calicut might know something.
[IMG:01] After Returning to China
The monk Xuanzang came all the way from the distant land of China and took back many scriptures with him. It must have been difficult to write that travel account and translate all those scriptures. He must have gotten help from the policymakers of the time. For matters of this region, you should really investigate in Hangzhou.
[IMG:01] Xuanzang and the Ruler of Virtue
Xuanzang after his return from India? That was during the rule of Taizong in China. Taizong was a historic ruler who truned his eye to international affairs. I'm sure he would have been involved with a man who had gone and studied abroad. Talk to the official in town to hear more about Taizong.
[IMG:01] In Exchange for Translation Work
I heard that Taizong was not only interested in the scriptures Xuanzang brought back but also was interested in information concerning the surrounding islands. When he asked Xuanzang to translate the scriptures, Taizong also asked that he deliver the record of his travels together with it. If you're looking for that travel journal, you should look in the archives.
[IMG:01] Record of Visits to Many Countries
There is a manuscript on Xuanzang's travel records here on the shelves of the archives. It's a very interesting book--it describes not just India, but also the castles and towns of various surrounding islands. You might find it interesting in another way as a voyager gone over the seas and travelled the world.
[IMG:06] Record of Experiences Around China
It seems Xuanzang, after returning from India, recording an account of his travels according to the wished of Taizong. In these recoreds are accounts of the countries Xuanzang visited. A copy is on the shelves in the archives. Have a look.
