Build enough r1 Houses to gain the pop required for r2 Houses...
Are you able to start then building r2 Houses and start replacing
the r1 Houses (dismantle them one at a time) with r2 Houses?
If you lose a House, does the population go back down? Sakura above said remove all r1 Houses and start r2 Houses....so is this how it works or do you have to balance it so that your population never goes below r2 requirement for r2 Houses?
I see that all the shrubs count against the colony until you dismantle them (which you can do all at once while still buiding something).

Dismantling r1 homes means your population will drop. You have to balance dismantling r1 with putting up enough r2 houses that you dont get stuck with a low population and back to square 1.

Thanks for your input, there Misun, so VERY helpful.
We tore down an unneeded facility (forest) and built another house. Now we are growing again. It seems you must keep a house or two above your current population. For instance: we were at 300/300 population, now we are at 400/550 population. I think you have to keep that second number higher then the first.

each building you built in your colony except the houses can increasing some certain numbers of Agriculture,Industry, Technology and Culture to your company , those points will decide which type of goods can be sell in your colony .
Like the peacock feathers , you will need 2151 pop - 1700 Agriculture - 1300 Technology and 1300 Culture , made from farm and sell in food market (??? some mistake of KOEI ???)

there are NC items you can buy that allow speed-up and 1 extra build per day but they are expensive and 1 use only, there is no other way.
all you can do is get all your company members to build and invest also, - if your company is just you - your looking at spending few hundred million to get to r2 shipyard 2500 population...
i did my comp colony to 1300 population - then put it on hold due to cash flow issue....

There's only four specialized buildings available at the moment, and the only one I've messed with is the arsenal, which has no effect. The only one that would I'd think would be the University, but not sure if that applies outside of the colony or not

like company shop, you get colony available when your company has 5 members (eg: 5 accounts)
- so it wont be available if you have 5 members, but only 3 accounts

Correct me if Im wrong, construction time doesn't mean the max pop of a certain house (Type rank F w/ 50 pop) will automatically be achieved, like Holfina said, leave it for a few days and your pop will increase to above 250 in which an extra 5 more slots will appear and u can start building new houses again. :)

It would really be a big help if they would put the squares needed for each building like some are 3 x 3 and some are 5 x 5 and it would be a super big help in planning a city if a person could know what he had to allow for space to the buildings that are available at like population 3500 and population 5000. That info is more important then other info listed up above.

I agree, building a colony takes months to reach a high population, you need to know where to build each buildings properly to utilize the full 40x40 so listing the areas for each buildings and the pop needed to show them will be a great help. :-)

Since Townhall r2 is 5x5 and needs 5000pop to build, I'm assuming all other buildings which requires 5000pop is 5x5 thus the 71-79 buildings and Lab r2 is has an area of 5x5 also. Again, its just my opinion. :)

With 5001 population, the special buildings can be made, and most trade goods. I think 6200 pop is only for certain tradegoods that can appear, but the tables for what good appear is hard to find (and you need to know chinese or japanese or whaterer, normally)

All buildings r2 or above require a 5x5 area, including specialized bldgs like arsenal and mufacturing bureau. A colony is another team exercise, like contributions, so investments for special buildings have initail restrictions and once the initail bundles are consumed, more investment is needed. I'm not sure how much r2 mines and farm point contribution is for trade goods at market, but trade goods are controlled by those points. Imperio Espanol has a fully developed colony and anyone is welcome to vist and check out. We built it carefully and doing math to control which trade goods are sold. Colony layout must be carefully planned too, so that bldgs don't get lost and everything is easily accessible.

Some can be found on top of the comments page but gonna summarize it here:
For buildings 71-79:
1. You need 5000+ population (5100 max). Build a square to achieve it
2. You need to invest 3 times. 1st time when building, after 5-10hrs invest 2nd time (20m), wait for 5-10hrs again and third one (5m)
3. They have an area of 5x5 each
4. You can only build 3 out of 9 buildings (71-79)
Others:
1. Townhall r2, Lab r2, Mine r2, and farm r2 also needs 5000+ pop to show up
2. They also have an area of 5x5
3. Shipyard r2 only has an area of 3x3
- You need to have 25 houses r3 to reach 5000 plus square and an extra house (r2 or r3) for the extra 100 pop
- It will take about 3-4 months to achieve max pop (I started Jan 2013 first week to April 3rd week 2013)
- A total of 50 buildings can be made.
- It seems r2 (mines, farm, lab and townhall) do give 1000 points in there respective category but I'm not 100% sure :)
- Best trade goods (depends on you) needed 7-8 r2 mines (Gold, etc). just my own opinion
- I built my colony in New France as its closer to the landing point "Newfound Land" in which you can easily gather white ore, logs, rocks for your colony.

well the gd thing abt colonies is it can be built in a way that the trade good is customize to ur need. for example, if ur company is a maritime oriented company, u can build ur colony in such a way that it has cannon, steel and cannonball as trade goods. so ur company caster can easily cast cannons for maritime even though they r nt spain. it also helps in grinding trading skills. for example, u can customize ur trade good to be mainly fibres catagories, so with 1 PO u can grind as much prof as possible.

r1 only gives abt 300? while r2 gives 1000. The more the points the higher the trade goods you will get. You can build 4 r1 farms and you will get the same goods as 1 r2 farms. Of course, r2 farms you need max population of 5100? but it will save you some slots to build other buildings.
In addition, r1 farm will not be obselete when you build r2 farms, it will just add the points in total.

At my 'new' Printer, at my Company Colony, i received 2 x 'Printed Material Exchange Ticket' today - available once daily (server 24hrs). These exchanged to: PO1 x3 , PO3 x3.
(No trading necessary)
Just register a Colony with a Printer and pick up your free tickets when you visit.

Yeah, to the company members they give 2 tickets, non members 1.
Those tickets give all types of stuff, like POs, pardons, esbts...
The printers are also very useful for archiving skills, it takes half of the time rounded down there. For example, a Rank 9 skill is archived there in 4 days.

1.how long time it take to dismantle each building? 2.can we dismantle multiple?and if we can dismantle multiple it will take more time then calling friend to help dismantle?etc.we got 5 bush to dismantle and we manage to clear 5 bush by ownself vs calling 4 friends to help in dismantle.which way faster? 3. how we can rise [actual]population-not limit population in fact?will buying trade goods in colony help?someone told me it works but i need more opinion.

1. depend on what building
for example
if you dismantle house2(which have 40 total) and each cycle will do 10 it will require 4 cycle...look at C / C
2.yes you can dismantle multiple..but each dismantle will cost ya...i kinda have no idea how much it will be though
3.only by buying goods...look at the activity (quiet, low, etc)

Next update, which I figure to be a month from now, there will be a new port in North America: Boston (13239,3058). Or rather, a skosh to the east of the lower-most red dot in the Cape Cod, Open Sea zone shown on the map up there.
As I understand it, Boston will not have archives, or guilds to take quests/change jobs. What it will have... is a Railway station.

With the release of Chapter 2: Cross a Continent, certain Colony buildings can have special NPCs appear at them if the conditions are met. I'm not sure what those conditions are yet, though I strongly suspect it's tied to immigrant quest gauges. The buildings confirmed so far, are:
Bank - Police Officer and "Policeman's Daughter"
Tavern - Steward and Maid
Craftshop - Cowboy and Cowgirl (Sell Red Western clothing for both genders, plus Dreyse Pistol, all MA items)
Town Hall Rank 2 - Miner (Sells Red Miner clothing; MA item)
Archives (any type) - Geographer (sells Geography boosting items)
Square - Various

I suspect it's gauge related since at one Company Colony that I stopped by (Global_Trades), their Bank had a Police Officer, but no Policeman's Daughter; on the other hand, their Town Hall had a Miner, but a different colony (Friend_Builders, I think) had no Miner at their Town Hall. Both colonies had the Cowboy and Cowgirl, though.
Looks like in order to fully realize the potential options here, the GAMA community would do well to coordinate and share information. If you've been doing Colony immigrant quests, stop by your colonies; you might be surprised by what you find.
Of course, not every NPC listed may be available up front... but a lot of them already seem to be (Geographer, "Royal Girl", Sewing Masters, etc.) around. Happy colony developing. Cheers!

You have to invest. Exemple, if the building consume 10 shares per cycle, and its 100/100 it takes 10 cycles to be built. If it is 0/100 it doesn't progress.

From these results, it appears that the only way to obtain these goods with this choice of buildings is to award 30 points in each category for each storehouse. 20 points is not enough to reach the 300 points needed for salt, senna, dandelions and wine and 40 points is too much for wheat, corn, red beans and soya beans which would then have been replaced by goods with 1100 points required.
