So this is Manila, right?
But, I don't know how to go about searching for the journal...
Anyway, let's start by going to the city!
- 7077
- City Official
Well, well, how rare to have visitors...
May I ask why you are here?
- 7078
- What question do you want to ask?
- 7079
- We're here about Pigavetta.
- 7081
- Town Official
Oh, Pigafetta? I haven't heard that name in a long time... He was the herald for that journey and acted as Magellan's protection throughout the trip.
Don't you think it is a little strange for him to be doing both of those jobs?
But, Pigafetta was a member of the Knights of Rhodes and was quite fond of Magellan.
Rumour has it that Pigafetta returned to his home country after the journey.
Thanks to him Magellan's name probably spread throughout all of Europe from Spain.
- 7082
- Elena
Huh? Famous...?
- 7083
- City Official
Not famous?
Hmm. That's strange...
Sir Pigavetta had of course also recorded Admiral Magellan's accomplishments. So if you don't know about him in your home country,
then where could the journal he kept with him at all times have gone to...
- 7084
- Elena
Journal!?
You know about his journal!?
- 7085
- City Official
Yes, I suppose I might. Please don't hesitate to ask.
- 7086
- What question do you want to ask?
- 7087
- Where is the journal now?
- 7088
- What's written in the journal?
- 7089
- Why do you know about the journal?
- 7090
- City Official
I don't know... I simply thought that he took it home with him...
But, even if I did know, that journal is an extremely important document that could greatly affect this country's history. I'm afraid I couldn't tell you, as I simply don't know you well enough. I hope you'll understand. Is there anything else you'd like to ask?
- 7091
- Town Official
As I told you earlier Pigafetta was a herald.
Therefore, his journal likely contain many details of that voyage. However, that's not all...
It seems that Pigafetta also recorded the customs, culture, wildlife, climate, even the cooking methods used for all the places he visited. If those notes have been lost then the credibility of the records currently in existence regarding the voyage around the world will be damaged. Judging by your reactions it seems as though Magellan's name is not very well known where you come from and so his journal must have been lost... What a terrible waste...
Do you have any other questions?
- 7092
- Town Official
The influence Magellan's fleet had on the surrounding countries was enormous. Thus, there are still many stories floating around about his journey. One of those involves Pigafetta's journal.
Many people saw him coming to and from the royal palace quite often, as has been recorded in numerous accounts. Therefore it was thought that if a name was recorded in his journal for a good reason, the king would reward that person but for a bad reason the king would punish them.
The people did their best so that they would be represented in a good light in his journal and I believe some people were actually written about. However, there are no records of anyone actually being rewarded by the king.
Of course, that makes sense if the journal was lost...
Do you have any other questions?
- 7093
- What do you want to do?
- 7095
- I don't have any more questions.
- 7096
- City Official
Hmm. So that's all, eh?
Very well, then I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to lea...
- 7098
- City Official
...!
T-that rosary... I-it couldn't be...!
...
No, that's definitely it. Please pardon my inexcusable rudeness just now...!
- 7099
- Elena
Huh!? What's going on...?
Please don't be so flustered. I forgive you, okay?
- 7100
- City Official
Such kind words...!
That's right, I have something to give you. Please wait right there.
- 7101
- Elena
O-okay...!
- 7102
- Elena
Heh heh. I'm not sure what's going on, but it looks like I made out lucky!
- 7103
- City Official
Please take this letter to Sir Legaspi of this city. He is Spanish, but he is trying his hardest to settle down here. And because of that, he's still carefully researching the exploits of Admiral Magellan, who still holds considerable influence. I am sure he will help you.
- 7104
- Elena
Okay! Thanks!
Come on, Player, let's go see this Mr Legaspi!
- 7105
- City Official
Very impressive that you made it over that sea...
All right, your next port of call is...
...
Oh, it looks like you still have unfinished business here. Why don't we do this after you've taken care of it.
- 7106
- You handed over the letter for Legaspi.
- 7107
- Legaspi
Oh ho! I see! So this girl is...
- 7110
- What's so important about Elena's rosary?
- 7111
- Legaspi
So you are Miss Elena... Before I answer that, may I ask the name of your father?
- 7112
- Elena
I've only ever lived with my grandfather... I don't have a father...
- 7113
- Legaspi
I do beg your pardon... However, this is very important.
May I then ask the name of your grandfather...?
- 7114
- Elena
...Diego Barbosa. What about it?
- 7115
- Legaspi
I see! Now I understand!
- 7116
- Elena
...?
- 7117
- Legaspi
Sir Diego Barbosa is the father of Admiral Magellan's wife, Miss Beatrix. Which means that you are Admiral Magellan's sister-in-law!
- 7118
- Elena
W-what? Me? Magellan's sister...!?
- 7119
- Legaspi
Indeed...
And, as for that rosary around your neck.
It used to be worn around Admiral Magellan's neck.
I can just see the people of this city going crazy as they realize they are looking at one of Magellan's relatives...
- 7120
- Elena
Wait a minute...
I'm not sure I understand...
- 7121
- Legaspi
Hmm. Yes, it must be difficult to take this all in at once...
- 7122
- Legaspi
All right, let me get straight to the point. The letter asked me to help you, but what is it that brings you here to Manila?
- 7123
- What will you answer?
- 7124
- We came here to find Pigavetta's journal.
- 7125
- It's one of our stops on the worldwide route plan.
- 7126
- We just felt like stopping by.
- 7127
- Legaspi
Oh ho... Pigavetta's journal, eh?
- 7128
- Elena
That's right! I'd almost forgotten...
- 7129
- Legaspi
Come to think of it, I haven't yet asked your name. And who might you be?...
...
- 7130
- Legaspi
Player, eh...
You appear to be a Voyager of great skill. Sir Barbosa has a good eye...
However, I'm afraid that this is the first I've ever heard of such a journal even existing. I'm so sorry I can't be of more help...
But, while it may not be a journal, are you at all interested in some of Sir Magellan's old belongings?
- 7131
- Elena
What do you mean...?
- 7132
- Legaspi
This is a statue of a young Christ.
This statue was presented to the wife of the king of Cebu Island, Rahja Humabon, after they converted to Christianity. However, it was stolen by those who could not get used to Christianity and hidden in the jungle of Brunei. But now, a Voyager on the worldwide route has brought someone with a connection to Magellan, and is sure to find it and bring it back. Isn't that a great story?
- 7133
- Legaspi
Well, Player, how about it? Will you try to find this statue?
- 7134
- Legaspi
I am sure that is not the only reason that you have brought Miss Elena to this remote area.
- 7135
- Elena
I can't... I can't think about anything right now... Why did I even come here?
- 7136
- Legaspi
Ha ha ha! I'm impressed that you're capable of telling jokes in this situation!
- 7137
- How will you respond?
- 7140
- Legaspi
Wonderful. All right then...
- 7141
- Legaspi
For them, it was a divine statue of a strange religion, but in order to keep it safely they built a small shrine in the jungle.
- 7142
- Legaspi
I would go and look for any trail of that shrine in the forest of Brunei outside of the city. I am sure that the statue will be there. Should you manage to find it, please come and see me again.
- 7143
- Legaspi
Of course it is ridiculous to search through an enormous forest looking for a single statue.
- 7144
- Legaspi
However, we have a very helpful clue leading to the statue's whereabouts, so it shouldn't be that difficult of a search.
- 7145
- Elena
Player, we don't have any clues, and I can't do it alone... Please, will you come look for it with me?
- 7146
- Elena
A jungle, eh...
I bet it has lots of bugs and stuff, right? And snakes...
I-I'm getting kind of scared...
I-if we do see any bugs or snakes... I'll be counting on you, Player!
- 7147
- Meanwhile, in Seville--
- 7148
- Servant
Master Elcano, I have good news.
- 7149
- Elcano
What is it?
- 7150
- Servant
We have reports that a Voyager by the name of Player has been searching for Pigavetta's journal... And not only that, a little girl has been accompanying Player.
- 7151
- Elcano
A little girl...
- 7152
- Servant
It is very likely that that is Elena. She is believed to have stolen onto Player's ship in Las Palmas...
- 7153
- Elcano
I see...
And the journal we have been looking for is in Manila... But let them keep searching. Player or whatever may actually be able to find it. We'll move once it is found.
- 7154
- Servant
Yes sir!
...
Master Elcano, there is one more bit of information...
- 7155
- Elcano
What is it?
- 7156
- Servant
It's the time when Barbosa took in Elena as his adopted daughter.
According to our investigator, he places it at the autumn of 1522...
- 7157
- Elcano
The autumn of 1522...?
...
No! It can't be...!?
- 7158
- Servant
Yes. That is a very real possibility.
- 7159
- Elcano
...No, there is no problem. Both Barbosa and that girl will be dead and buried soon. Just keep a close eye on that Voyager.
- 7161
- Elcano
Blast... Even in the afterlife, you continue to pester me...
- 7162
- Elena
This must be the altar's trail! Let's look around!
- 7163
- Elena
I found it! This must be it.
Look at this, Player! I can't believe we really found it...!
Okay, let's go back to Manila!
- 7164
- Elena
Mmm... It looks like it's not here... Let's try looking somewhere else!
- 7165
- Elena
Okay, let's go back to Mr Legaspi's!
- 7166
- Legaspi
Ah, Player... So, did you find the statue?
- 7167
- How will you respond?
- 7170
- Legaspi
I see... Well, there's no rush. It's not like it's going anywhere.
- 31018
- Having arrived in Manila, the group began looking for the journal.
- 31019
- Checking with the town official and asking about Pigafetta and his journal, he replied that he did not know and that even if he did, he would not tell them.
However, the moment the town official saw the rosary around Elena's neck, his demeanour changed instantly.
As the town official had a letter addressed to Legazpi, he gave it to Player and the others.
- 31020
- As Player handed over the letter, Legazpi asked Elena the name of her father and adopted father.
Diego Barbosa was the adoptive father of Magellan, meaning that Elena and Magellan were brother and sister.
Suddenly, Elena was trembling upon knowing the truth.
Legazpi asked why Player had come to Manila, but Legazpi did not appear to know the location of the journal either.
Instead, the group went out in search of a statue of the baby Jesus that another fleet had left behind.
The statue was supposedly in the ruins of an altar in south east Brunei.
- 31021
- Meanwhile, Elcano learned that Elena was aboard Player's ship.
He began creating a net to trap them.
- 31022
- The group arrived in south east Brunei and after searching the ruins, managed to find the statue of the Baby Jesus.
They then journeyed back to Manila in order to report their find to Legazpi.
