- Merchant
...That's what actually happened, I heard.
- 1860
- Resident
...Hah! Like I'd ever believe a story like that!
- 1861
- Resident
...You need to stop spreading rumours! You must have heard, right? Sarmiento gave up his position in charge of the India Trading Company?
- 1862
- Merchant
That's right.
There's all sorts of reasons behind it, I hear.
- 1863
- How will you respond?
- 1864
- Reasons behind Diego giving up the position?
- 1867
- Merchant
It seems he admitted to using his position for something highly illegal.
The only reason he got off with just losing his position was due to all of his achievements from the past.
- 1868
- Resident
...That's all rubbish, has to be.
You know how loyal Sarmiento is to the king! He'd never do anything of the sort.
- 1869
- Merchant
You might think so, but remember all the rumours about the port permits? I don't think this can be discounted so easily.
- 1870
- Resident
No, no, I don't believe it.
There's no way anyone would admit to something so obviously terrible of their own free will.
And taking advantage of his position in such a way would get anyone severely punished, even Sarmiento, I assure you.
- 1871
- Merchant
Hey, they say half of the palace treasury is made up from offerings from Sarmiento, okay? Even if he did dirty up the books or something, they could just claim they didn't have enough proof.
You there, what do you think? Do you believe me?
- 1872
- How will you respond?
- 1873
- I can't believe it either.
- 1874
- I think you might be right.
- 1875
- Resident
There, you see.
That's what I said.
- 1876
- Merchant
There you go! He thinks the same thing as me! But anyway...
running our mouths off in a cheap tavern like this isn't going to have an effect on Sarmiento's power, is it!
- 1877
- Merchant
You really think Sarmiento could do such a thing...?
- 1878
- Resident
I don't believe it.
It's simply impossible.
- 1879
- Merchant
You heard that Gama has been made governor again? I thought for a moment that this was going to bring a load of pepper into Lisbon, but turns out I was just being foolish.
- 1880
- How will you respond?
- 1884
- Merchant
Gama said in a meeting that making pepper freely available will ultimately damage the profits of our country.
So all of the pepper that comes through Calicut will remain the property of the royal family.
In other words, the juicy position Sarmiento gave up has been taken over directly by Gama.
What's he going to do for us, then?
- 1885
- Merchant
That Gama...
what's he going to do for us, eh?
- 1886
- Alvero
Well well, Player!
- 1887
- You're carrying a little too much right now.
Lose some of the baggage and come talk to me again!
- 1888
- How will you respond?
- 1891
- Alvero
Hey, wait a moment.
- 1892
- Alvero
We're about to set out on a long voyage, actually.
We're just loading food and water onto the ship.
- 1893
- How will you respond?
- 1894
- I thought you were retiring?
- 1895
- You're going somewhere?
- 1896
- Alvero
Yeah, a long voyage ahead! I decided not to retire after all.
When I told my father about it...
- 1897
- Alvero
Oh, that.
Well, when I told my father about it...
- 1898
- Diego
Retire?! What are you talking about? My position and the position of the company remain unchanged! All I've done is left the India Trading Company.
There are plenty of other things left for me to do!
- 1899
- Alvero
What...? You mean...?
- 1900
- Diego
Come now, you think someone as unpolished as yourself could work as my assistant? You would have to deal with merchants, nobles, real big fish!
- 1901
- Alvero
...Huh.
If that's how you want it I'll pass on being your assistant.
But what about Hayreddin? We have to avenge my mother, don't we...?
- 1902
- Diego
That duty belongs to me and Baltazar.
I have hired him as a mercenary.
We don't need you getting involved and getting yourself killed by him too.
- 1903
- Alvero
So what should I do?
- 1904
- Diego
Take your own path, the path you believe in, be that trading or whatever you wish.
That is what you really want to do, isn't it?
- 1905
- Alvero
...I never thought I'd hear my father say that.
Looks like I could have done as I wished a lot sooner than this, huh!
- 1906
- Juan
Alvero! We're ready to set sail!
- 1907
- Alvero
Okay, Juan.
Thank you.
- 1908
- Juan
So where are we going this time, Alvero?
- 1909
- Alvero
As far as we can! We're going beyond India, beyond the golden land that lies there, right to the end of the world!
- 1910
- Juan
Okay! Let's go!
- 1911
- Alvero
Well then, Player.
This is farewell! Maybe I'll see you at the end of the world, too!
- 22168
- In Lisbon, word spread that Diego had retired from the India trade committee.
The customers in the tavern talked amongst themselves about the circumstances surrounding his retirement.
- 22169
- According to the rumours, Diego had admitted to abusing his authority and been requested to dissolve his company and renounce all of his titles.
However, it was said that the King limited it to only Diego's retirement and did not demand any further punishment than that.
The customers in the tavern could not believe that he would ever be involved with such a thing and passed the story off as mere gossip.
- 22170
- Around town, there was a merchant who walked around disappointedly.
He had retired from Diego's trade committee hoping that the exclusive sales rights of pepper would be dissolved.
- 22171
- As Player went out into the port, there was a familiar face waiting there.
Alvero was making preparations to go out on a new journey.
Whenever Alvero had attempted to help with the company, Diego had simply laughed and said, "What could someone as rash as you do?" Diego had signed a new mercenary contract with Baltazar and planned to set out once again to defeat Hayreddin.
Alvero said that he planned to follow Diego's instructions that "You should follow your own path, a business path that you can believe in," and that he had decided to set out on a new trip to see the world.
Just then, Juan came up after having finished the preparations for the trip.
Alvero then promised to Player that they would see each other again at "the end of the world." And then he set out in his ship and pointed towards the vast blue sea.
