That Gama fellow may have left but a horde of Portuguese officials were quick to take his place.
They think their numbers mean strength and their overall attitude is terrible.

You're Player, right? A Portuguese official in town is looking for you.
- 1239

You're Player, right? An official from your country is searching for you in Calicut.
- 1240
- Sanjai
What is with these Trading Company dogs who took Gama's place?! They are so arrogant!

- Trade Committee Official
You're Player, correct? Admiral Gama took a liking to you, I hear, but his stay here is a thing of the past.
This might be a good chance for you to go home, and I've got a job that suits such a voyage.
Can you take 100 sacks of pepper to the Royal Company House on Madeira island? These are for the palace, so not a single grain of it must go astray.
Take this order to Sanjai's market and exchange it for the goods.

- Trade Committee Official
Take this order to Sanjai's market and exchange it for the goods, then take them to the Royal Company House on Madeira island.
- 1244
- Alvero
You look like you're wondering what I'm doing here...
well, can I go with you on your ship back to Portugal?
- 1245
- How will you respond?
- 1246
- What about your work with the Gama fleet?
- 1248
- Alvero
...I've quit working for Admiral Gama, actually.
- 1249
- Alvero
There's no need to go back...
because I've quit working for Admiral Gama.
- 1250
- Alvero
After we went to Goa the Admiral was good enough to keep it secret that I'm a Sarmiento.
But everyone around me just kept on attacking my father.
- 1251
- Gama
Alvero, you've been troubled since arriving here in Goa.
The rumours concerning your father among the officers is the issue here, I take it?
- 1252
- Alvero
Tell me, Admiral...
Is it really okay for me to be here?
- 1253
- Gama
Of course.
But that isn't what you think about yourself, is it.
What you want to do is go home immediately and find out the truth, then prove to all of the rumourmongers that they are liars.
Right?
- 1254
- Alvero
...Yes, you're right.
I know there's a plan behind all this.
But that doesn't change the fact he trampled all over everything you achieved, Admiral Gama.
I can't believe he made the decision alone.
So I want to find the truth...
but...!
- 1255
- Gama
You don't want to leave your duties to the fleet incomplete.
However, I'm no longer in a position to give you the orders that will make full use of your talents.
Nor do I have the authority to stop the officers from gossiping.
This is all going to make things too hard for you here.
If you wish, and as a thank you from me, I can relieve you of duty.
- 1256
- Alvero
What can I say...
Thank you, Admiral Gama...!
- 1257
- Alvero
...That was when I heard you were going home so I hurried back here from Goa.
Please, can you take me with you?
- 1258
- How will you respond?
- 1261
- Alvero
Please, don't be like that! I won't be able to go back and face Admiral Gama if you turn me down!
- 1262
- Alvero
Thank you...
I guess I'll say hello to Sanjai while I'm here.
- 1263
- Alvero
Hey, Sanjai.
It looks like you're doing well for yourself.
- 1264
- Sanjai
Ah, Player, Alvero, my friends.
Look how wonderful my market has become!
- 1265
- Alvero
Impressive, impressive indeed.
Now, to business.
- 1266
- Showed the pepper order!
- 1267
- Sanjai
...An order for pepper? Working for the Trade Company now, are you?
- 1268
- Alvero
No.
We're just heading back to Portugal.
- 1269
- Sanjai
You are...?! That's a little sudden, isn't it? I'm going to miss having you around...
- 1270
- Alvero
Don't worry.
We'll be back with more of our countrymen before you have time to miss us! Please, get the pepper ready.
- 1271
- Sanjai
Fine...
but you are going to need more space on your ship, Player.
Make room for 150 sacks.
- 1272
- Alvero
Hold on? Aren't merchants meant to be good with numbers? The order is only for 100...
- 1273
- Sanjai
Think of the extra 50 as a parting gift from me.
- 1274
- Sanjai
I've added an extra 50 sacks as a parting gift from me.
- 1275
- Alvero
Thank you, Sanjai!
- 1276
- Sanjai
You got it!
- 1277
- Sanjai
You are going to need more space on your ship, Player.
Make room for 150 sacks.
- 1278
- Sanjai
I've added an extra 50 sacks as a parting gift from me.
- 1279
- Alvero
Thank you, Sanjai!
- 1280
- Sanjai
You got it!
- 1281
- Sanjai
Hurry back with more of your countrymen.
I'll have work for you all, if you want it.
- 1282
- Alvero
Hey! Look at the crest on the ship there!
- 1283
- Alvero
My father's involvement looks to be confirmed, huh.
- 1284
- Alvero
Oh!
- 1285
- Alvero
Sorry.
I'm waiting here.
Please finish the loading.
- 1286
- How will you respond?
- 1289
- I'm afraid I can't do that.
- 1290
- Alvero
...Yeah, although I'm not sure what.
I don't know why but I don't like this place.
I'll just wait here...
- 1291
- Alvero
...Sorry, I'm not sure why...
but I don't like this place.
I'll just wait here...
- 1292
- Alvero
...Sorry, I'm not sure why...
but I don't like this place.
I'll just wait here...
- 1293
- Company House Secretary
This is the Royal Company House of Portugal.
No civilians allowed.
- 1294
- How will you respond?
- 1295
- I'm here to deliver pepper.
- 1297
- Company House Secretary
A civilian ship bringing pepper? I'm not sure I understand, but very well.
100 sacks, received.
- 1298
- Handed over 100 sacks of pepper!
- 1299
- Company House Secretary
A civilian ship bringing pepper? I'm not sure I understand, but very well.
Hold on! It says 100 sacks here, but you don't have that many.
You'd better bring 100 sacks.
- 1300
- Company House Secretary
It says 100 sacks here, but you don't have that many.
You'd better bring 100 sacks.
- 1301
- Company House Secretary
100 sacks, received.
- 1302
- Company Worker
Hurry delivering the pepper.
- 1303
- Company Worker
If you've finished delivering the pepper, you may leave.
- 1304
- Company House Secretary
Good work.
- 1305
- Voice of Company House Secretary
...I can't believe it, the Trading Company making use of civilian ships? Talk about cutting corners...
- 1306
- Voice of Company Worker
We'd never allow this if our company also had control of the ships from India.
- 1307
- Company Worker
Civilian, you may leave now.
- 1308
- Alvero
The delivery is finished...
they were talking about something, though.
Did you hear what they said?
- 1309
- What do you want to do?
- 1310
- Tell him about the company having control.
- 1312
- Alvero
I see...
so outwardly they are royal premises, but behind the scenes...
my father...
- 1313
- Alvero
No need to worry about my feelings.
I heard what they said...
My father's company really is in control here.
- 1314
- Alvero
But I've made up my mind...
I'll continue to believe in my father until I uncover the truth.
Before I left Admiral Gama said this to me...
- 1315
- Gama
Alvero.
Before you leave there is something I want to tell you.
- 1316
- Alvero
Yes, Admiral?
- 1317
- Gama
It's a story from my first voyage to India.
During the entire voyage I had to endure the voices of my crew calling to turn back.
In the end I broke and shouted at them, and indeed at myself.
Shouted that we had left mother Lisbon believing that the sea leads to India.
That we should remain steadfast in our resolve so long as the clear ocean lay before us!
- 1318
- Alvero
Steadfast in our resolve...?!
- 1319
- Gama
That is right.
You must never cast aside the resolve you find inside yourself now.
Confirm the truth for yourself.
- 1320
- Alvero
That's what he said...
so I'm going to ask my father directly about the company's involvement and everything that happened in India.
So I'm going to stop taking things at face value and wait to find out the truth from the source.
- 22107
- Player was summoned by the official stationed in Calicut to replace Gama.
- 22108
- The official had a scheme to send Player, who had Gama's trust, back home and ordered that 100 bags of pepper be delivered to the royal trading hall in Madeira and then return to Lisbon after it was finished.
- 22109
- Waiting in front of the trading hall was none other than Alvero, who was supposed to have gone to Goa.
He requested that he be given a ride back to Lisbon.
Apparently, he had left the fleet in order to find out the truth about his father Diego on recommendation from Gama himself.
Player, based on Alvero's recommendation, headed to see Sanjai at the trading hall to inform him of the trip to Lisbon.
- 22110
- Sanjai was disappointed to see both of his friends leave, and as a parting gift, gave them more pepper than they required.
Alvero promised to bring his friends from home to India one day.
- 22111
- The two set out on their long journey and eventually arrived in Madeira.
- 22112
- Once Player delivered the pepper to the royal trading hall, the trading hall secretary and the commerce clerk were fed up.
They criticised the trade committee official for not sending a ship at his own expense and instead sending Player, stating, "They never would've forgiven us if we had handled the transports from India." Alvero seemed to be in shock when hearing about how deeply involved the Sarmiento Company seemed to be.
However, he remained positive as always.
When he left the fleet, Gama told him, "We must not lose faith in our journey." And so, the two of them eventually reached Lisbon.
