North China Building Investigation

Jakarta Adventurer's Guild
Do you know about the massive fort in North China? Many people are curious about the structure. Here in the guild we're gaining information as well. I've heard that the Port Official in Macau used to live in North China. Use that as your first lead.

1. Castle Wall Running East-West
It's a rampart to keep out invaders from the outside. It's apparently been there for a long time, and was fixed up to its current state during the Ming Dynasty. It stretches so far to the east and west, it must have taken a considerable amount of time to fix up. I'm sure a scholar in Hangzhou would know about its construction history.

2. Beginning of Construction
It originated during the rule of Emperor Shi Huang. There were walls built by the divided nations in the area for defensive purposes. After Emperor Shi Huang unified the country, he connected the walls in the North, and those walls only. The wall at that time was not very high... just tall enough that cavalry could not ride over it.

3. Wall Materials
Also, the wall itself was likely made of just simple hardened clay. But still, with the large scale of the wall, soldiers and farmers were ordered to help in its construction... The wall was not fortified with bricks until the rule of the Yongle Emperor. It has since been repeatedly repaired, until it reached its current state.

4. Installed for Defense
As the wall was built for defense, it was built with just a number of "passes" at regular intervals. These passes featured lookout areas and were garrisoned with reserves. Ah yes, you should talk with the city official in Yuntaishan. He also is pretty familiar on the subject.

5. Differences in Repair
I see... So are you aware that the wall in the west is still in its dilapidated state? The eastern edge of the wall is near the Bohai sea, and of course it has been sturdily rebuilt. But the western side has hardly been touched. Nomads are occasionally pulling out and removing the clay, I heard..

6. To Safely Observe
You'd like to check it out for yourself? Well, seeing is believing, they say. There's spot where you can land along the coast of the great river flowing North. From there, head towards the large boulder and then proceed in a bit further to find the perfect spot to survey it. It's a bit of a long trip... but I can assure you, the sight is worth it.

7. Presence of Large Buildings
The massive structure in Northern China seems to be a rampart built during the reign of Emperor Shi Huang. It has been rebuilt and fortified since the Ming Dynasty, and now stretches far from East to West. It has an overwhelming presence. Land north along the river from Yuntaishan, cross past the large boulder, and proceed farther in.

The Great Wall 1 ★★★★★★ (Historic site) Exp:1190 Fame:458
A strong castle wall that is over 6000km long.
It's construction was first started by the first Qin Emperor, who began by connecting some of the fortifications built on the north side of the country.

What age do you need to be in to enter this zone? I it is not letting me in here (yes, ive completed the great wall quest)
Bael05-07-2017
This area is North of Yellow River Downstream, the one on the West is Xanadu, you can enter there after a big Adv chain
Sabion05-07-2017
I already said that I completed the quest. Now, when I try to enter it, it wont let me saying something about not being in the right Age. What Age is required to enter?
Guilder05-08-2017
As Bael tried to tell you, there are actually two inland "portal" entrances in Yellow River Downstream: one that leads to Xanadu, and one that leads to Loess Plateau, where the Great Wall is found. You're at the wrong entrance; only the Xanadu entrance requires the "right Age" (14th Century Chrono Title equipped) to enter. This semi-outdated map of the Yellow River Downstream zone might help you some:
Yellow River Downstream
The DB is acting a bit strange, so it shows as a broken link right now, but clicking on it will take you to a part of the DB where the image isn't broken. (You could also consult your Charts --> East Asia --> Yellow River Downstream and see all the flags there, but the DB option has the advantage of labels.)
Anyway, there are flags shown on it; ignoring the landmarks, one flag is the entrance to Loess Plateau (top part of the map), and the other is the exit back to your ship so you can set sail (right part of the map). Xanadu's entrance, not shown, is found on the left side of the map.

"yellow sand" mysterious phenomenon is seen on the great wall, north of Loess Plateau.
