                  The Efforts of Youth
Thank you for your help the other day. Since then, I have decided I must study the histories of Paekche and Goguryeo, too. After all, the unification by Silla was built on their history, as well. Besides, the royal mausoleum is just south of town. So first I want to research the King of Paekche. Will you help me?

                  The End of Paekche
Paekche fell in the time of the 26th King, Shengwang. At the time, Paekche was at war with Silla. The stories say that Shengwang marched to regain the land that Silla had taken, but was killed in an ambush.

                  The Rebirth of Paekche
Muryeong, the king you discovered who had ties to the royal mausoleum, was the 25th King. It was Muryeong who able to revive3 the country, whose resources had been drained by an on-going war. That beautiful mausoleum is perhaps a testimony of that.

                  Relations between Three Kingdoms
But of course it was not just Muryeong. He was in fact only building on the advances made by Dongseong, 24th King of Paekche. Of the three kingdoms of Silla, Goguryeo and Paekche, Silla and Goguryeo showed signs of expansionist or unification policies. Paekche did not.
                  However...

                  King and Country
The Paekche culture brought prosperity to an impoverished country and spread the teachings of Buddhism to the other countries. In addtion, the domestic policies of the King of Paekche must be lauded. Without the aid of the people, domestic policies cannot succeed. The people respected their King, and that's what allowed them to build such an outstanding mausoleum.

                  An Inherited Grip
I am told that the kings of Paekche always carried a sword. They say that the king's seal could be found in the grip of the sword. Of course, each king had a different sword, but the grip was inherited. Perhaps there is a hint as to where that went in the south, where you found the mausoleum.

                  A single sword
I have gathered information on the kings of Paekche. I may be able to find an artifact relating to them near the mausoleum at the landing south of town. I will head there and investigate.

Sword discovered in the ruins of Paekche.
The handle is decorated with a dragon. It was clearly used by the king himself.
