Biwa
Instruments from the region. Well there are many... How about a Biwa? It's been around for a long time. They are originally from a foreign land, and the really valuable ones are only seen by really powerful figures. I wonder what those are like?

Biwa Accompaniment
Oh right, I was talking about the Biwa. The Biwa is an instrument with tightly wound strings. It's a venerated instrument that even monks play. They play the biwa as accompaniment as they recite sutras.
I've also heard there is a very talented Biwa musician in Nagasaki.

Passing Players
You came all this way to listen to him playing the Biwa? That's too bad. He just left town. He didn't even give his name. I don't know anything about him. I did see him talking with the city official a lot, though. Maybe he knows something more.

Mysterious Player
I was really moved by that musician's Biwa playing. I asked what the secret to his playing style was, and he said he'd only teach it to his successor. I didn't need to know that badly, so I gave up asking... But he was nice enough to give me one of his old lutes instead.

Bequeathed Biwa
With it's tightly wound strings, the Biwa could likely be compared to the guitar or the lute.
There is one in the mansion in Nagasaki, so go and investigate.

  Biwa decorated with mother-of-pearl in-lay. The embedded seashells and tortoiseshells are gorgeous.
  In a certain storehouse, there is kept a lovely 5 string biwa thought to have been sent to Japan from India. Further details are scarce. There are few who are allowed to see it.
