      No.6911

      Edit
      Master of the roar
      No Expiration
      Calicut Adventurer's Guild
This is a request from a resident of Ceylon. It seems that when he went to a forest near Brunei, he heard an unbelievably loud sound of flapping wings. Whether this sound was made by a bird, or by a creature unknown to man... He would like you to find out the truth. First go to talk to him.

[IMG:Obtained_Info] [IMG:01] A massive animal? That noise is so loud it could drown out the cries of any other animal. A winged creature that can produce a sound like that... I wonder how big it could be! Ever since, I've been dying to know what kind of living thing could be the owner of such a roar. So that's why I'm asking you now, It's probably rather dangerous, but best of luck. [IMG:01] Beak as weapon Oh, that's an absolutely gigantic bird. When it spreads its wings, it's bigger than the owner over there is tall. And it's quite ferocious. If provoked, it will attack instantly with its long hard beak. The other day, one of them gored someone from this town and wounded them terribly. That kind of thing seems to happen here sometimes. Isn't that right? [IMG:01] A very peaceful bird Oh, you must be joking... It is quite a big bird, but it would only stretch out to about my waist. And it's a very mild-mannered bird, so it would hardly ever attack someone. But what you got right there is your description of its beak. [IMG:01] Sealing of nest holes Oh... sorry there... I didn't mean to... Well, about that bird, it has a unique way of raising its offspring. First, the female enters a hole in a large tree. Then, using her long beak, she fills in the opening with mud until only the tip of her beak can fit outside. She then raises her chicks inside this sealed off nest. [IMG:01] Self-sacrificing child rearing During that time, the male alone brings back food. In front of the nest, he gives out a distinct flap as a signal. But because the male alone must provide all of the food for the female and their chicks, he has hardly any time left to search for his own food. Apparently, males sometimes starve to death in this way. [IMG:01] How to tell the male and female apart Oh, so you're investigating that bird? Then let me tell you how to tell the male and female apart! Part of that bird's head juts out in a rectangular shape. The base of that is black for the male and white for the female. And this is something I saw myself, but the male has red eyes, while the female has white eyes. Just don't tell anyone else about this, okay? [IMG:01] Bird that like figs SO are you heading out to investigate that bird? It's not the nesting season now, so if you want to observe it returning to its nest, that might be difficult. Many times when people see it, there's a fig tree nearby. I hear they really like eating that kind of fruit. There are fig trees in the forest to the southeast. Why don't you search there? [IMG:06] Investigation of master of the roar A giant bird appears to be owner of the resounding roar coming from the forest in Brunei. It's supposed to be mild-mannered, so maybe it's only dangerous if provoked. The bird apparently likes eating figs. There's supposed to be some fig trees in the forest to the southeast. Search mainly then for red flowers in that area.

This bird has an extremely large body. They make a lot of noise when they flap their wings, enough to drown out the cries and calls of other animals. When breeding season comes, the female will crawl into a hole in the nest and the male will go out and get food alone for the female and their offspring. The hardship they face is unimaginable, and occasionally the male bird starves to death.
