Production is simply the processing of raw ingredients to turn them into different items.
To produce certain items you'll need to have the production skill required for that item and a recipe book containing the recipe for that item.
You'll also need the raw ingredients required to create that item.
For example, if you have a recipe book that tells you how to shear an animal and you have a sheep on your ship you can shear the sheep and produce wool for weaving if you have the Sewing skill. This is how production works.
Oh and by the way, be careful because you can't use a sheep that you have sheared for meat or anything like that...
That's because when you shear the sheep it gets embarrassed because it's naked and runs away!

Well, next I will go into the details of Production.
To break down Production broadly, there are five types: Cooking, Handicrafts, Casting, Sewing, and Storage. I will now explain these five types.
This will be quite a long explanation, so let's take a little break here. I will return to my office, so go ahead and get yourself some water.

The "Cooking Skill" is mainly a Skill used to process foods to cook.
Make boiled eggs from egg and salt
Make Ham & Cheese Saute from ham, cheese, and lard.
You can then deliver the food that you made. I imagine that you learned this at Beginner School, but if you eat cooked food, then you restore your Vigour.
On top of that, there are foods that have the effects of curing scurvy and Fatigue.
Elaborate cooking has effects even for members of an entire fleet.

The "Handicrafts Skill" actually lets you make a variety of things--
Making alcohol from wheat and dried grapes, making various seasonings from olives and sugarcane.
If your Rank in this Skill becomes high, you can cut Minerals and make precious stones.
Wooden Extra Armouring, the figurehead for the prow of a ship can also be made with this Skill.

The "Casting Skill" is making metals from ore and for making guns and armour.
If your rank in this Skill becomes high, you can make strong cannons, weapons, and armour.

The "Sewing Skill" lets you make cloth from fibre, and make hats and clothes.
It's a skill that a fashonista cannot do with it.
Studding sails can also be made.
If your skill in this becomes high, stunning dresses, and the clothes of Priests can be made.
High performance sails can also be made, which would surely be useful when sailing on the high seas.

I imagine you've learned about this in Beginner School, but Storage is also a Production Skill.

If your skill rank in this becomes high, you can make Tribute Items, which will cause enemy ships to pass you by.
Though the ingredients for Tribute Items are luxury goods, so for the time being I doubt you will be making them.

As I just explained, for the Production Skills, Ingredients and Recipe Books are necessary.
While I'm at it, I will give you some ingredients for Production.
There should be some good ones in my office.

When this lecture is over and you report to the instructor you will receive "Art of Fisherman - Method of Preservation" as a reward. This is a recipe book for a Storage skill.
It describes a method of storing fish that you catch so that they will last longer.
When you open the book you will find several different recipes inside.
Find the page labelled "Processing Sardines".
This page describes how to handle and prepare sardines.
If you have a Storage skill you should try it out.
If you want to raise your production skills you have to use that skill to produce things over and over again for practice.
Using production effectively to your advantage is the key to becoming a world class merchant.
