Today's lesson is on sea battles.
Pirates won't wait to attack until it's convenient for you
To help you learn how to keep your calm in any situation, I'm going to have you practice in an actual battle.
When you're ready, meet me next to the Port Official
in the Harbour.
- 8073
- Instructor Alan
You don't have a lesson with me.
- 8074
- Instructor Alan
All right. I'm going to explain sea battles to you.
There are two types of sea battles: ones initiated by yourself, and ones initiated by your enemy.
The basics are the same for both.
- 8075
- Instructor Alan
The moment a battle starts, the sea around you will become encircled by a boundary.
If you make it to the boundary, you will be able to escape. You should always be mindful of the choice to fight or to flee.
- 8076

Pass through the boundary to escape and end the battle.

Bombardment is your primary means of attacking in battle, and for that, munitions are required. Don't forget to stock up before you set sail.
- 8078
- You can stock up on munitions at port.
Your remaining ammunition is displayed here.

Ship movement in battle is almost exactly the same as outside of battle. The only difference occurs when you are firing at an enemy.
If an enemy ship is within firing range, you can click on it to attack. When you fire, it's best to have the side of your ship facing your opponent's hull.
If your cannons are facing the bow or stern of your target's ship, you will inflict extra damage.
- 8080
- Click on enemy ships within your attack range
to fire upon them.
Hit the bow or stern of your target's ship
to inflict extra damage.
- 8081
- Instructor Alan
If you board each other's ships, your sailors will enter Melee battle.
I'll explain that in a more advanced lesson.
- 8082

your sailors will enter Melee battle and fight
against your opponent's sailors.

Do you have any questions? If you'd like, I can go over it again.

All right, it's time for you to try a real battle. I've prepared a practice ship offshore from town. When you're ready, go fight against it.
Come see me when you've finished the drill.
- 8101
- The practice ship is waiting near the port.
Approach it and click on the ship to enter battle.
As soon as you are ready, sail from the port
and fight the practice ship.
- 8102
- Instructor Alan
...Player, weren't you supposed to be in my class?
- 8103
- Instructor Alan
The practice ship is ready. Set sail from the port.
- 8104
- Sailor
We're ready! Let's start the practice drill!
- 8105
- Sailor
We did it! Report back to Instructor Alan!
- 8106
- Sailor
What? Haven't you been taking lessons?
- 8107
- Instructor Alan
Well done. You should now have a grasp of the basics.
Don't push yourself too hard whilst you are still getting the hang of things. But you should be able to at least protect yourself now.
Report back to the academy, and then come see me here again. I have one more thing I'd like to teach you in this lesson.
- 8108
- Instructor Alan
I want to give you a ceasefire agreement after your lesson, but it looks like your inventory is full, Player. Please make room for it.
- 8109
- Instructor Alan
Now that you've learned the basics of sea battle,
I'd like to give you this ceasefire agreement, just in case.
This document will allow you to escape if attacked by pirates.
You can't use it on pirates far away from here, but it should work around this area.
That brings us to the end of your lesson on sea battles. Let's return to the academy.
