...Player, weren't you supposed to be in my class?

- Instructor Alan
Your next lesson is about ship parts.
I'd like to explain the various types of equipment and the roles they play.
When you are ready, meet me in front of the shipyard.
- 7987
- Instructor Alan
You don't have a lesson with me.
- 7988
- Instructor Alan
Let's begin your lesson on ship parts. Ship parts are your ship's version of equipment.
Just as different equipment is worn on different parts of the body, different areas of the ship can be outfitted with certain parts.
There are six types of ship parts: studding sails, cannons, extra armour, special equipment, figureheads, and crests.
In this shipyard, you can buy studding sails, cannons, extra armouring, and special equipment. But the experts here will be able to explain it better than I. Would you mind?
- 7989
- Shipyard Master
I've already spoken with them. They know what to do.
- 7990
- Instructor Alan
Thank you. Talk to each of the craftsmen and see what they have to sell.

Alright Player, your lesson will continue after you've spoken with each craftsman.
- 7993
- Sailmaker
There's something I'd like to give you when we talk. Could you make room in your inventory?
- 7994
- Sailmaker
I deal with studding sails. There are studded sails for fore-and-aft rigs and for square rigs. Each has different effects.
But for now, all you need to know is that they increase your ship's speed.
More studding sails can be fitted onto larger ships.
- 7995
- Sailmaker
Do you understand? If you'd like, I can go over it again.
- 7999
- Sailmaker
I'll explain it again.

Good.
I hope you will have a large ship one day, and I'd like to give you something to start you on your way.
- 8005
- Sailmaker
I'll look forward to the day you come back with a huge ship that can hold many studding sails.
- 8006
- Instructor Alan
Alright Player, your lesson will continue after you've spoken with each craftsman.
- 8007
- Weaponsmith
I'll explain cannons. Each ship can hold a set number of cannons.
Smaller ships can only be outfitted with a few cannons on each side, but larger ships can carry many -- even some in the fore and aft.
There are also many types of cannon shot, but it's hard to remember them all at first. You'll learn about them later.

Next I'll explain special equipment.
There are many different kinds of special equipment, including some made for ramming other ships,
some to help in Melee battle, and some to improve the performance of your sails.

There's something I'd like to give you when we talk. Could you make room in your belongings?

I deal with extra armouring. Reinforcing your ship's armouring will help it to better withstand attacks.
But keep in mind that thicker armouring makes for a slower ship. When selecting armouring, find the balance that works best for you.

Keep at it, and you'll be a fine sailor in no time.
Good luck!

It looks like you've heard all of their explanations. You should now understand the basics of ship parts.
It looks like you have a few parts already. Just hanging on to them doesn't do any good.
When you buy ship parts, don't forget to outfit your ship with them.
- 8045
- Select the "Ship Parts" command
to outfit your ship with purchased parts.
- 8046
- Select the "Buy & Equip" command
to immediately equip ship parts after purchase.
- 8047
- Instructor Alan
When you change ship parts, you have to pay a nominal refitting fee, but it's cheaper than the cost of buying the parts.
- 8048
- Instructor Alan
Do you have any questions? If you'd like, I can go over it again.

No problem!
- 8063

That's a good stopping point for our lesson.
