Listen to this.
That Julien guy is amazingly good at excavations!
He found the ruins in no time at all.
He sent me back to report because it looked like the excavation was going to take longer than he thought.
Okay then, I'm off to see Vittoria!
- 818
- Vittoria
...The Carthage ruins were buried in Tunis!?
- 819
- Harun
Yes.
Their outskirts, to be precise.
Julien deciphered the meaning of that poem easily, and dug up a huge bronze status in no time.
- 820
- Painter
Wow.
Carthage, the legendary country destroyed by Rome.
- 821
- Sculptor
I'm very interested in that bronze statue...
- 822
- Archaeologist
I knew it...! It's just as I predicted...
- 823
- Vittoria
Thank you for coming, Player.
Apparently Julien really found it.
- 824
- Harun
I couldn't believe it.
I guess I underestimated him because of his fancy clothes, but he's amazingly smart.
Anyway, I'm gonna head back to Tunis to help with the excavation!
- 825
- Vittoria
Wait, Harun.
- 826
- Harun
Hm? What is it?
- 827
- Vittoria
Could you and the rest of the salon people come with me to observe the excavation?
- 828
- Harun
...? Well of course I'd be happy to...
But I stole away by myself on a merchant ship to make it back here and report.
Your ship is still over there.
- 829
- Vittoria
I see.
Then I guess we can't go...
- 830
- Harun
...Wait.
Player, could you take us there in your ship again?
We could use your help keeping Vittoria safe on the way to the ruins anyway.
Right, Vittoria? If Player came along with us, you'd be sure to reward him, right?
- 831
- Vittoria
...Well, of course that would be great, but...
Can we ask you that, Player?
- 832
- How will you respond?
- 835
- Vittoria
You're right...
I'm sorry for asking too much.
- 836
- Harun
That's our Player!
- 837
- Vittoria
Thank you! I don't know what to say.
- 838
- Vittoria
...Okay then, let's all help out Player with his boat until we arrive.
- 840
- Vittoria
I'm sorry for asking the impossible.
- 841
- Harun
Come on, Player, come with us.
- 842
- How will you respond?
- 845
- Vittoria
We're here.
- 846
- Harun
I'm pretty sure there's a gate somewhere in the city that will let you leave it.
Please take extra precautions to make sure you don't die out there in the desert.
- 847
- Harun
......
- 848
- Vittoria
What is it, Harun? You haven't been looking so good...
- 849
- Harun
...I'm so sorry.
I think I lost the map to the ruins somewhere...
- 850
- Vittoria
What!?
- 851
- Harun
...Ah ha ha.
I'm really sorry.
But you know, Player has been to the ruins before.
If we stick with him, we should be fine.
- 852
- Vittoria
...Honestly...
Well, Player, can we ask you to take us there?
- 853
- Harun
......
- 854
- Vittoria
What is it, Harun? You haven't been looking so good...
- 855
- Harun
...I'm so sorry.
I think I lost the map to the ruins somewhere...
- 856
- Vittoria
What!?
- 857
- Harun
...Ah ha ha.
I'm really sorry.
Unfortunately, we'll never get there now without someone who knows the way...
- 858
- Vittoria
Honestly, you're so clumsy...
I'm so sorry, Player,
but let's go back to the city and look for a Voyager who knows where the ruins are.
- 859
- Before we enter Bulsa Hill, we need members in the fleet that have already discovered the Carthage ruins before, or we need a quest that involves us finding the Carthage ruins.
- 860
- Harun
This is it! This is the place!
- 861
- Vittoria
So this is the Carthage ruins, eh.
- 862
- Harun
Yes.
Julien must be digging up the ruins somewhere.
- 863
- Vittoria
Let's go find him.
- 864
- Julien
?
- 865
- Julien
...Miss Vittoria!?
What a lovely surprised.
I never thought I would see my patrone come all the way to an Islamic community excavation site.
Well done on making it here safely...
- 866
- Vittoria
Player was the one who brought us here.
- 867
- Julien
Oh ho...
I see.
- 868
- Vittoria
So, how is the excavation proceeding?
- 869
- Julien
...Well, I was able to confirm beyond any doubt thanks to the discovery of some artefacts
that this is absolutely the remains of the city of Carthage.
- 870
- Vittoria
Looks like you really are a great hunter.
Hey...
When we met in Naples, that was an imitation necklace you gave her, wasn't it?
- 871
- Julien
?
- 872
- Vittoria
I thought you were just some peacock trying to deceive his supporter...
- 873
- Julien
Ha ha...
So you have been testing me?
- 874
- Vittoria
I'm so sorry.
This time I was the one deceiving you.
- 875
- Julien
No no.
I would expect nothing less of my famous, eccentric, keen-eyed patrone, Vittoria Orseolo.
Besides, thanks to you I have made a great excavation.
- 876
- Julien
Now, let me show you what we have found.
- 877
- Vittoria
Oh no, not me.
Please show them.
- 878
- Vittoria
...Oh, it's already begun.
- 879
- Julien
...?
- 880
- Painter
...This is an amazing mural.
I'd like to use these techniques in my own oil paintings.
- 881
- Sculptor
This terra cotta statue is fascinating.
It's obviously not of Roman style.
- 882
- Archaeologist
Keep your filthy hands off those until my investigation is finished!
- 883
- Vittoria
Ha ha, it looks like they're all caught up.
- 884
- Harun
Well, Player, wasn't I a big help in finding these ruins too?
- 885
- Painter
...This is an amazing mural.
I'd like to use these techniques in my own oil paintings.
- 886
- Sculptor
This terra cotta statue is fascinating.
It's obviously not of Roman style.
- 887
- Archaeologist
With this, I won't be at a lack for research supplies for a long time.
I must thank Julien.
- 888
- Julien
Vittoria, did you come all this way just to show them?
- 889
- Vittoria
That's right.
I want them to see the culture of the past for themselves and get new ideas.
That way, they can acquire the wisdom we've lost these last few hundred years and create brand new masterpieces.
And the people who see them will then start a whole new culture in Venice.
- 890
- Julien
I see...
So all of this is for the invisible, ambiguous thing known as culture.
- 891
- Vittoria
I guess you could say that...
But, I think that one day, things like this piled up together will help turn Venice into a real cultural cornerstone.
Even if it takes decades, or even centuries.
- 892
- Julien
Ha ha...
That's some very forward thinking.
However--
I too have grown tired of being a decoration for nobles.
I would love to sign a true contract to have you as my patrone.
- 893
- Vittoria
I would love to.
- 894
- Julien
Ha ha...
Player, it looks like I have found a great master thanks to your help once again.
I thank you.
- 895
- Julien
Ha ha...
Player, it looks like I have found a great master thanks to your help once again.
I thank you.
- 896
- Vittoria
If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have been able to show these amazing ruins to everyone.
Thank you, Player.
This is a token of my thanks.
- 897
- Vittoria
Okay then, everyone.
Let's head back to the harbour.
- 24059
- Several days later, Player was reunited with Harun, who had returned to Venice.
According to him, Julien had managed to find the ruins of Carthage and because the excavation looked like it would take a while, sent Harun back ahead to report the find.
- 24060
- Upon hearing Harun's news, Vittoria said she was going to take the scholars and artists from her Salon and pay a visit to the site.
Together, the group set out towards the ruins in Tunis aboard Player's ship.
- 24061
- However, since Harun had lost the map to the ruins, they were left with no choice but to find the excavation site on their own.
- 24062
- Eventually, they arrived at the ruins on Byrsa hill.
- 24063
- Julien was surprised that Vittoria, one of his sponsors, would come all the way out to an Islamic excavation site to observe things.
- 24064
- And the fact that she had brought the Salon's artists and scholars as well surprised him even more.
They all were eager to soak in the wisdom of the past and use it to inspire new ideas for their works.
Vittoria hoped that these efforts would eventually turn Venice into a true cultural centre, even if it took several decades, or even hundreds of years.
Julien was shocked by such a long-term vision, but stated that he was tired of being the figurehead for the nobility and said that he would like to sign an official contract with Vittoria.
- 24065
- Vittoria expressed her thanks to Player for bringing her to the location and then left to return to Venice.
