- Soldier
You have to pay us a 30,000 ducat tax to dock your ship in this city's harbour.
- 378
- Underling
Heh heh heh.
These orders are straight from Countess De Broglie.
Don't blame us.
- 379
- What do you want to do?
- 382
- Underling
Oh ho...
You've got guts standing up to the Countess's orders.
...Hey, leader.
Why don't we toss this guy in Chateau d'If?
I've been wanting a boat like his for a while now.
- 384
- Soldier
Good idea.
The Countess will be pleased.
- 385
- Underling
...Hey, leader, are you sure just money is enough? This guy's got a really nice boat too.
I've been wanting one just like it for a while now.
Why don't we just toss this guy in Chateau d'If too?
- 386
- Soldier
Sure, that's fine.
- 387
- Voice
...I will warn them.
- 388
- Underling
Hmm? What do you want, Father?
- 389
- Augustine
...This is Player.
He is a friend of the Countess's beloved Julien Clarence.
- 391
- Augustine
I'd be very careful about how you handle him if you don't want to anger the Countess.
- 392
- Underling
...F-Father, we haven't taken anything from this guy yet.
Please.
Don't tell the Countess about this, okay?
- 393
- Augustine
Ha ha...
Very well.
- 394
- Augustine
Close call, eh, Player?
- 395
- What do you want to do?
- 398
- Augustine
Ha ha...
If you wish to thank someone, you should thank Julien.
I'm impressed how those pet dogs of hers quivered at the mention of his name.
He's barely been working for the Countess for a month, and he's come highly into her favour.
...Anyway, I have a favour to ask of you.
Will you hear me out?
- 399
- How will you respond?
- 402
- Augustine
I suppose I can...
- 403
- Augustine
You see, Julien has been conducting excavations of old ruins with funding from the Countess.
I want you to deliver this to him in Naples.
...But, please be very, very careful that the Countess does not see it.
- 408
- Augustine
As you can see, it is a goldwork necklace with Romanesque ornamentation.
As for why I want you to deliver it...
You will know eventually.
...Okay, I'm counting on you.
- 409
- Augustine
Please, don't say that.
I really need your help.
As for why I want you to deliver it...
You will know eventually.
...Okay, I'm counting on you.
- 410
- Augustine
As for why I want you to deliver it...
You will know eventually.
...Okay, I'm counting on you.
- 411
- Patrol Guard
...I'm sure I saw it around here...
Hellishly dangerous element...
Where did you go.
- 412
- Patrol Guard
I'm sure I saw the man with an eye patch around here...
...Where did that hellishly dangerous element go...
- 413
- Port Official
Player1, it seems that you don't have a permit pass to enter the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Naples is part of the eastern Mediterranean trade zone.
You will need one of the port passes issued at the imperial villa to enter it.
- 414
- Excavator
You're still not going to the site? Come on, I'm getting sick of waiting.
- 415
- Excavator
Sorry you came all the way to Naples only to have the leader order you to wait.
- 416
- Julien
Why, if it isn't Player! What are you doing here?
- 417
- What do you want to do?
- 418
- Give him the necklace
- 419
- Don't give him the necklace
- 420
- Make sure that the Countess is not around
- 421
- Julien
...?
Didn't you have a reason for coming here?
- 422
- Julien
The Countess is currently supposed to be out on a long excursion...
Now, what is it you have there...?
- 423
- You gave him the goldworks necklace!
- 424
- Julien
Why, this is from Augustine.
Ha ha...It looks like it made it on time.
This was well worth the wait.
Thank you for your help.
Please accept this token of my gratitude.
- 425
- Julien
So, since you've come all the way here, why not have a look at the excavation site?
...To tell the truth, we need more people working on the excavation, so I'm really hoping you can help us out.
Of course, I will pay you well for it.
- 426
- How will you respond?
- 429
- Julien
I see...
I don't know what to say.
What should I do...
- 430
- Julien
Okay, then let's go outside the city gates.
- 431
- Excavator
I'm asking you too.
Please help us.
- 432
- Julien
We don't have enough people working on the excavation, and we'd love to have your help.
Of course, we will pay you handsomely.
How about it?
- 433
- Julien
There's a large dried-up tree to the east of here a few toise away that acts as a mark for the ruins.
Let's go check it out.
- 434
- Julien
It looks like it's up this way.
- 435
- Excavator
Wow...
Never thought a ruin would really be up here...
- 436
- Excavator
That's a really nice pillar.
- 437
- Excavator
Okay! Let's get to preparing!
- 438
- Julien
It's just as I thought...
This stone pillar is from the days of the Roman Empire.
I'm certain that underneath this ash lies the sleeping city of Pompeii.
- 439
- Julien
We will now begin the excavation.
According to the ancient document, there should be a shrine devoted to the gods of the sun and the moon within 1 toise of this area.
Find it, and excavate carefully.
- 442
- Julien
A statue of Apollo...!
- 443
- Julien
There's no mistake! This is definitely the remains of a shrine...!
If there's an Apollo statue here, there should be a Diana statue as well somewhere close by.
We still have time before the sun sets, so let's be sure to find it.
- 445
- Excavator
This new boss is great.
I thought he'd be flaky and unreliable, but he knows his stuff.
- 446
- Excavator
I never thought we'd find something this soon.
- 447
- Julien
This is all thanks to your help.
I really appreciate it.
- 448
- Voice
...Hey! This is amazing! Come here, Vittoria!
- 449
- Julien
......!?
- 450
- Young Boy
Look! Underneath that pillar! There's the face of a marble statue.
- 451
- Vittoria
...That's a statue of Apollo.
Judging from its style...it's from the Roman Empire.
I knew it.
Pompeii is surely buried here!
This is a huge discovery!
- 452
- Julien
...Oh ho.
How rare to have visitors down here.
- 453
- Excavator
Judging from the ruins' shape, there should be another statue of a god nearby...
- 454
- Excavator
The Diana statue, eh...
Where could it be...
- 455
- Excavator
Hmm.
I'm sure it's around here somewhere...
- 456
- Young Boy
Oh wow! There's a marble statue!
- 457
- Julien
You also have an interest in Roman ruins?
- 458
- Vittoria
...Huh?
Uh, yes.
I heard there's a buried Roman city here...
- 459
- Voice
A guest, Julien?
- 460
- Julien
...Why, if it isn't the Lady Countess.
It is an honour to have you here all the way at the excavation site.
- 461
- Countess De Broglie
I'm tired of seeing Naples' scenery.
Are you still not done with your shrine excavation?
- 462
- Julien
...I'm afraid not...
- 463
- Countess De Broglie
...Oh ho.
Is that...
- 464
- Countess De Broglie
That statue is a perfect size to display in my garden.
I permit you to load it aboard the carriage.
Dig it up and load it there immediately.
- 465
- Vittoria
Hold it!
- 466
- Vittoria
What do you mean to dig up just the statue when we still can't see the entire shrine yet?
- 467
- Countess De Broglie
And who are you, girl, to tell me what I can or cannot do?
- 468
- Vittoria
If you're willing to fund an archaeological dig, then you must know this.
Until an investigation is finished, you can't remove a single part of the ruins, or the image of what it used to look like will be lost forever.
And if that statue is the primary statue in the temple, that goes twice as much.
Not even the King himself can be allowed to steal from a site like this.
I will not let it happen.
- 469
- Countess De Broglie
How rude! How dare you call me a thief!
- 470
- Julien
Please, be calm, Madame Countess.
It is just a simple, worthless statue.
It is not fit to be presented in a beautiful garden such as yours.
Please...take a look at this instead.
- 471
- Countess De Broglie
Oh ho...
And this is...
- 472
- Julien
This is a goldwork necklace we dug up from these ruins.
I believe it would be a perfect match for your lovely white neck.
- 473
- Vittoria
......!?
- 474
- Countess De Broglie
Beautiful! Just what I would expect from Julien Clarence.
- 475
- Julien
Thank you for the kind words.
...Now then, we have made excellent progress with the excavation, so I believe it would be a good time to head back to France.
Unfortunately, I must remain behind and finish things up with the excavation, so I will see you again in the city.
- 476
- Countess De Broglie
Very well.
Just be sure to be back by nightfall.
- 477
- Julien
Understood, Madame.
- 478
- Vittoria
......
- 479
- Young Boy
So, the old bag's gone now...
- 480
- Julien
All right, let's fill in the site and hurry back home.
- 481
- Excavator
What...!? After we went and dug all that up?
- 482
- Julien
It is truly a shame that we will be unable to see the whole shrine, but I would rather do that than have Apollo be made a garden ornament.
- 483
- Julien
Player, will you be returning to Naples as well?
- 484
- What do you want to do?
- 487
- Julien
...I see.
Well, just let me know when you wish to return.
- 488
- Julien
I understand.
- 489
- Julien
Well then, young lady, I must be on my way.
I hope that I can one day be reunited with the beautiful moon goddess, Diana.
- 490
- Vittoria
...!
- 491
- Julien
Player, will you be returning to Naples as well?
- 492
- Julien
Player, thanks to you we were able to make an amazing excavation find.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Please accept this.
- 493
- Julien
Why don't we go back to Marseilles together?
- 494
- Countess De Broglie
You're late, Julien.
- 495
- Julien
Ha ha...
I'm terribly sorry.
It took longer to finish up at the site than I thought.
- 496
- Countess De Broglie
Well, whatever.
I'm tired of Naples.
We're going back to Marseilles.
- 497
- Countess De Broglie
We're finally back.
Let's go home so I can...
- 498
- Julien
......!?
- 499
- Julien
...Madam Countess, I'm terribly sorry.
Something urgent has come up.
Please return to the mansion without me.
- 500
- Countess De Broglie
Wha...! How rude!
Player, you said your name was? Find Julien and tell him to come back immediately!
- 501
- Julien
Ha ha...
So you're here too, eh Player?
- 502
- Augustine
Good work.
Thanks to you, that necklace got into the hands of the Countess without a hitch.
I'm truly grateful.
- 503
- How will you respond?
- 504
- What is that necklace?
- 505
- No no, it's no trouble.
- 506
- What are you two planning?
- 507
- Augustine
Ha ha...
You will see.
- 508
- Augustine
Ha ha...
How modest.
- 509
- Augustine
Well Julien, thanks to your name all of the preparations are now complete.
Now...we just need to wait for the spark to reach Paris.
- 510
- Julien
Sorry to work you so hard.
- 511
- Augustine
But you know, it's strange.
I never thought that I would ever be writing my own impeachment letter.
- 512
- Julien
Ha ha...
Thank you, kind sir.
Here is your reward.
- 513
- Augustine
With this much money, you could take hundreds of students with you on a journey to the west.
- 514
- Julien
So, you will be going to the Indies after all?
- 515
- Augustine
Exactly.
In order to get back to work as a Voyager, the King has been sending one fleet after another off to the west.
We would like to take advantage of this to go to the Indies and open a new world for Protestants.
...Well then, I shall take my leave.
I can't go on to perform my carefully prepared comedy if I become too visible, after all.
- 516
- Julien
Take care...
- 517
- Julien
Now then...
I must be getting back to keeping the Countess distracted.
Oh yes; the next time we meet, I should have some wonderful news.
Au revoir!
- 24018
- One day, upon arriving in the port at Marseilles, Player was surrounded by the Countess's ruffians and threatened to pay a tax for entering the port.
However, Augustino appeared and introduced Player as an acquaintance of Julien's, who had earned the favour of the Countess.
The demeanour of the ruffians changed almost instantly, and they fled as if scared.
- 24019
- Augustino said that he had a favour to ask of Player.
He handed over a gold necklace that he wished to be delivered to Julien, who had gone to Naples in search of finding some ruins.
Afterwards, he quickly left, attempting to avoid the gaze of the security patrols roaming around the town.
- 24020
- Having obtained the necklace in Naples, Julien thanked Player for cooperating.
He then said that he needed some help with a dig of some Roman ruins outside of town since the excavation team was short of members.
- 24021
- Heading for the outskirts, the group went headed east from town and looked for a large dead tree that pointed the way to the ruins.
- 24022
- The group began their excavation at the ruins.
Before long, a Statue of the Roman Sun God Apollo was unearthed.
Julien instructed everybody to continue looking for its paired statue, the Statue of the Moon Goddess Diana as well.
- 24023
- Just then, a young noble woman came to excavation site.
Called Vittoria by the young man accompanying her, she gave out a shout of joy when she heard that the ruins were from the era of the Roman Empire.
- 24024
- Julien greeted Vittoria warmly.
Just then, the carriage of the Countess De Broglie, who should have been sightseeing in Naples, approached the site.
Upon seeing the Statue of Apollo, she demanded that it be dug up immediately and placed in her garden.
Vittoria was infuriated by this act of illegal digging.
The Countess was angered at being called a thief, but Julien stepped in to help defuse the situation.
He lied, saying it was but a worthless statue, and instead gave her the necklace he had received from Player and convinced her that it had come from the ruins and gave it to her as a present.
Feeling better, the Countess left ahead of the rest of the group to return to town.
- 24025
- Julien told the excavation crew to bury the Statue of Apollo.
As he left, he told Vittoria, "I hope that I can one day be reunited with the beautiful moon goddess, Diana."
- 24026
- After returning to town, Player and Julien set out for Marseilles.
- 24027
- In town, Julien noticed Augustino and followed after him, ignoring the efforts of the noble woman to hold him back.
- 24028
- Julien met up with Augustino at the tavern.
Augustino thanked him for safely handing over the necklace to the Countess.
Julien had prepared everything that had been listed up in the outline.
He left the cryptic message that all that remained was to wait for the spark to arrive in Paris.
Then, Julien paid Augustino a large sum of money, telling him it was his reward.
Augustino replied that with this much money, it was more than enough to take several hundred of his followers and journey west.
He was about to set out on a journey, and going to the Indies in order to develop a new land for the Protestants.
Trying to avoid the watchful gaze of those around him, he quietly left town.
- 24029
- Seeing him off, Julien told Player that next time they met, he would have excellent news, and then he returned to be with the Countess.
