Player.
His majesty wishes to offer thanks for the deeds of you and Alvero in India.
Please go with Alvero immediately to the palace in Lisbon.
- 1466
- Juan
Ah, Player!
- 1467
- Alvero
Player, nothing has changed with me.
I still can't find a way to reach the Indies.
Did you want something, anyway?
- 1468
- How will you respond?
- 1469
- The king has called for us.
- 1470
- I don't have any news in particular.
- 1471
- Juan
I see...
- 1472
- Juan
What?! Alvero, you're going to see the king with Player?! That's amazing!
- 1473
- Alvero
Heh heh...
I guess so.
Getting the call now, though...
My father must have reported to the king after all.
He hasn't changed.
I know it!
- 1474
- Juan
Being summoned by the king! Amazing!
- 1475
- Guard
Player and Alvero.
You may proceed inside.
- 1476
- Alvero
An audience with the king.
I'm going to ask directly about travelling to the Indies.
If it works out I'm sure he'll give me permission for the voyage...
- 1477
- Duke Braganza
Ah, Alvero, Player.
His majesty awaits you in the audience chamber.
- 1478
- The King of Portugal
Player, Alvero.
Diego Sarmiento has told me all about your good works in India.
Your achievements require special consideration, and reward.
- 1479
- Alvero
...Your majesty, please, before you go any further.
I have one request.
- 1480
- The King of Portugal
Anything.
- 1481
- Alvero
I have heard that a few years ago a Spaniard called Colon travelled to the islands around India.
But I heard nothing of the Spanish successfully obtaining pepper there.
In fact, the west Indies appear to be totally separate from east India.
There are rumours that the Spanish are aware of this but have been keeping it quiet.
In order to confirm the Portuguese victory in reaching India I want to see the Indies for myself!
- 1482
- The King of Portugal
I see...
you are right, of course.
However, we have joined a treaty that prevents our ships from landing anywhere on the islands of the Indies.
If you are to go then it will have to be in secret, not as an official emissary of our country.
- 1483
- Alvero
Of course, you majesty.
- 1484
- The King of Portugal
Very well then.
I hereby order you, Alvero, to secretly conduct an investigation of the Indies.
However, this will be most difficult alone.
You, Player, who went through so much with Alvero in India.
Please accompany him on this mission.
Understood, Player?
- 1486
- Whatever you command.
- 1487
- With all due respect, your majesty...
- 1488
- The King of Portugal
I see...
but I can think of none better suited to this mission than you.
Will you please take it on?
- 1489
- The King of Portugal
Then go and complete this mission, Alvero, Player.
- 1490
- Alvero
My plan worked, then...
but I didn't expect to end up getting you involved again.
Sorry about that.
- 1491
- Alvero
Well, Player.
Two ships together will be too obvious.
We should go separately and then meet up there...
let's say the island of Santo Domingo, which holds a Spanish base.
- 1493
- Alvero
You made it safely, too.
Check out that blue sky, huh? There's none of that spicy smell the towns in India had, and the people sound like they are speaking a different language.
It looks like the rumours that this place is completely unrelated to India are true, doesn't it? Still, we must fulfil our orders and confirm that there really is no pepper here.
- 1494
- Alvero
That's a complete search of the port.
There definitely doesn't seem to be any pepper here.
- 1495
- Alvero
There's another port called San Juan near here.
Let's go and check there, too.
- 1496
- Alvero
There's another port called Jamaica near here.
Let's go and check there, too.
- 1497
- Alvero
That's a complete search of the port.
There definitely doesn't seem to be any pepper here.
- 1498
- Alvero
There's another port to the east from here, called San Juan.
Let's go and check there, too.
- 1499
- Alvero
That's a complete search of the port.
There definitely doesn't seem to be any pepper here.
- 1500
- Alvero
There's another port to the west from here, called Jamaica.
Let's go and check there, too.
- 1501
- Alvero
Hummm, I've also heard of a forest on Santo Domingo.
Just to make sure, let's check there to be sure there are no spice plants growing.
- 1502
- Alvero
As I thought, there are no spices anywhere near here.
It looks like our investigation is complete.
- 1503
- Alvero
Look, to the south! Isn't that carrack Baltazar's ship?! Hey...
he's under attack!
- 1504
- Alvero
Baltazar! We're here to help!
- 1505
- Baltazar
...Diego's son, and Player! Why are you here?!
- 1506
- Alvero
We've got questions for you.
We can't allow you to get sunk here!
- 1507
- Spanish Solider
What! You?!
- 1508
- Alvero
The famous fleet of the Duke of Alba isn't up to much, is it!
- 1509
- Baltazar
That's only a scouting force.
We need to get back to Jamaica before the main force arrives.
We can talk in the tavern there.
- 22124
- Player and Alvero were ordered to come to the Royal Palace.
It seemed that the King had some kind of reward to repay them for their accomplishments in India.
- 22125
- Unable to receive permission to visit the Indies, Alvero was troubled.
Upon asking about the reward, Alvero learned that his father Diego had promised to report their accomplishments to the King.
"I knew it.
My father hasn't changed one bit," Alvero told himself.
- 22126
- Having gained an audience with the King, Alvero used the opportunity to inquire about his desire to visit the Indies.
The reason he gave for wanting to take the journey was to secretly investigate the western the Indies islands.
He explained that the place was different from the India he had seen in the east and wanted to confirm whether there was any pepper there.
The King was impressed with Alvero's enthusiasm and approved the voyage based on two conditions.
One was that he be sent not as an official envoy, but as a spy.
The other condition was that he take his partner from India, Player, along with him.
- 22127
- Alvero was pleased at having received the King's permission for the journey.
However, he apologised profusely for getting Player involved as well.
And so, the two of them set sail for the Spanish base of Santo Domingo.
- 22128
- The two of them arrived safely in Santo Domingo.
As they had no way of following Baltazar's trail, they decided to first search the islands of the Indies for signs of pepper.
- 22129
- Having found no sign of any pepper in the surrounding islands, the two friends were about to leave Santo Domingo when they spotted Baltazar's ship under attack from the Duke of Alba's fleet.
- 22130
- The two went to offer assistance, turning the situation around in Baltazar's favour and impressively forcing the enemy fleet to flee.
The group then decided to escape to Jamaica before the enemy had a chance to regroup with their main fleet.
