Time will tell? um no, 100 att > 85 att. Dura isn't an issue, plus 1 swordplay helps damage, but it doesn't make up 15 points, and that's if your gear doesn't already have it capped at 20 anyway.

It's not better by any measurement.

Excalibur - 100 attack, 3 swordplay
Kanemoto - 85 attack, 2 swordplay, 2 sword mastery

If you are still so stuck into swordplay and 15 attack without realizing the importance of what 2 sword mastery can do in LB, ask around those who are using them to pawn noobs around, ie Bliz.

r20 sm can be reached pretty easily, then it all comes down to what weapon has more base damage. Unless they lift up the r20 max rank, excalibur will remain best, unless NM release another weapon.

I think you're all idiots.

Both swords are plenty good. One will be better for those with sm maxed, one will be better for those with sp maxed (and lacking sm). Arguing about which is better is about as useful as arguing whether red or blue is a better colour.

With people trying to sell Excal for 1b these days, this sword is a viable alternative at half or less that price.

Never said it wasn't viable, and i have r14 SM so i kinda know about the benefits of it too.

Excalibur is better, it sells for 10x more than this sword for precisely that reason. This is a fine weapon, but not the best.

It really depends on where and when these weapons are being used. The key here lies on which job you are in. You either go for a Sword Mastery favoured job like Sword Master or Swordfighter in which then Excalibur's 15 attack will work better, or go for jobs where Sword Mastery isn't favoured, whereby then Kanemoto's Sword Mastery advantage makes 10+10 much easier to be achieved.

This is actually rather pivotal in the maritiming community considering the introduction of Deck Battles. Sword Master or Swordfighter puts a maritimer in a position where he sacrifices Repair/Steering being favoured, which is quite vulnerable in various sea fight conditions. When we draw a comparison between these jobs and jobs that favour either Repair or Steering and Swordplay such as Filibuster, Senior Officer etc, The 15 attack bonus from Excalibur (down to around 4 attack in melee battle) will then not matter too much. Particularly Filibuster, where you also have First Aid favoured.

The bottom line is, unless you are not keen to Deck Battles and prefer to stick to land duels and dungeons, then maybe Excalibur is your weapon of choice. Otherwise, Kanemoto is actually a better one in terms of maritiming. This sword may not be the best, but neither is Excalibur.
