Calicut Adventurer's Guild
We got another request from the youth studying theology after he received the survey report on Mount Sanqing. They want to know more about Taishang Laojun, who was in the report. Seeing as he is a Taoist god and all... You should investigate around South China. Maybe you could call on the missionary in Macau again?

[IMG:01] 1. Who's Taishang Laojun
Taishang Laojun...? You mean you're doing research on Laozi? "Taishang Laojun" is the name of Laozi after he was deified. If it is Laozi you are interested in, you should talk to the scholar in Hangzhou. I'm sure he's real familiar with books written by Laozi.
[IMG:01] 2. Who's Laozi?
Laozi was a very mysterious person. Other than his name being mentioned in the book, Record of the Grand Historian, not much else is know about his affairs. I can't say definitively, but it seems he was a philosopher of the Spring and Autumn Period, and an official in the Zhou court... in other words, a librarian. But...
[IMG:01] 3. Laozi's Book
They say he foresaw the downfall of the Yuan Dynasty and fled west through the gates.
Also, he is said to have written a book at this time titled Tao Te Ching. Apparently, the guard of the gate begged him for his wisdom and that is what he was given.
[IMG:01] 4. Laozi's Tao Te Ching
The Tao Te Ching is a book of his philosophies. It is not very long, but it is full of meaning, and worth reading.
In Taoism, it is also called "True Classic of the Way and the Power".
This idea eventually developed into Taoism.
[IMG:01] 5. God of Taoism
Thus Laozi became respected as the founder of Taoism. He was deified in the Tang Dynasty, becoming the supreme taoist god, Taishang Laojun. There is an old statue of Laozi around Quanzhou. The statue is affectionately-held by the people there.
You should ask the trade merchants there in Quanzhou about the statue.
[IMG:01] 6. Seated Image of Laozi
The mountain where the statue is located hasn't been... safe recently. I can't recommend that you voyagers get very close. Ahaha, don't look so disappointed. I know a place from sea where you can get a great view of it. The Lao Zi statue is so large and impressive, you can get a good sense of its presence even from far away.
[IMG:01] 7. Without Going to the Mountain
[IMG:06] 8. Last Part of Taishang Laojun Investigation
It appears the supreme taoist diety, Taishang Laojun is a diefication of the philosopher Lao Zi. Now that you've gathered information on Lao Zi, view the statue from sea that is said to be his last physical representation. According to the trade merchant's description, you should sail out from Quanzhou and head north along the shore until the statue enters your sight.
