1. Buddha Guardian of Navigation and Floods
Yeah, i taught him about the Buddhas. He was most interested in hearing about the great Buddha carved into Mount Lingyun in Chongqing. That Buddha statue has made for the protection against floods and for safe navigation. You should go and pay your respects, seeing as you're a voyager and all. And what's more, you're guaranteed to be blessed.

2. Benefits of the Buddha
Apparently the number of shipwrecks in the nearby rivers have settled down ever since it was made. What actually happened was the rock was carved out for the statue was used to dam up the river, and made it flow less rapid. But i believe it's the blessing of the Great Buddha. The City Official in Chongqing should know more about that statue.

3. Concerning the Mountain's Rock
The rock of Mount Lingyun is soft, so i imagine it was very easy to carve. But still, the Buddha statue is terrible large, so I'm sure it took many years to complete. All the sediment that collected in the river must have greatly altered its flow.
Oh, did you know that, that statue used to be brightly coloured?

4. Lost hue
But it's a bit dirty now, due to exposure to the elements... At the time of its completion it bore a vivid gold colour, and its body was also decorated with vermillion. I'm sure it was glorious.
According to legend, there is somewhere on the Great Buddha where sutras can be placed...

5. Mystery of the Buddha Statue
The truth of the rumour is uncertain, but it wouldn't be unusual for such a large and grand statue to have holes for drainage.
Why don't you go and pay your respects? Head for the outskirts of town and look for the Giant Dead Tree. Head in deep and you should find it. Be careful not to get lost.

6. Large Seated Buddha
It appears there is a giant sitting Buddha statue on the outskirts of Chongqing built to appease flooding problems.
Though it has lost its vibrant colour, many ingenious devices were employed to maintain its current shape. Head deep into the outskirts of Chongqing towards the Giant Dead Tree and find the Great Buddha.
