Hmm, we received a request from Mercator to explore a river. It must be for the creation of some map.
To learn more details about what this job is about, you should talk to the client directly. Well, do me proud.

Mekong Delta 1.Commonalities
No, this request does not concern the making of a map. At the time when a certain map was being made, I came to realise one common feature. It can be seen in big rivers like the Nile and the Amazon, but..... Let us talk in some detail; the substance of the request can wait.
2.Why is there an island?
At the mouths of each of these big rivers, there is a large island. Further, each island is at the centre of the river mouth, acting so sa to divide the flow of the river. Doesn't that strike you as a little unnatural? At the mouth of the Amazon River, there is a large island. Should think something will come to be know by studying this island. Kindly investigate, using the town of Bahia as a base.
3.An island that continues to exist even as it is shaved away
Hmm. Well, people do say the darndest things, don't they. 'tis true that if an island were there, it would not be strange for it to have been washed away.... But then, as you approach it's mouth the Amazon River's current moderates. Could it be that the island not having been completely eroded is the reason for this?
4.unchanging since ancient times
So then, we're talking about an island slowly, but surely, getting smaller. But there is a legend about an island at the mouth of the Amazon having been there for ages.... Don't know how long that is, but if what is left from the erosion is this big, there's no telling how big it was to start with.
5.So that it will not be lost
Wait a minute. Whilist the water of the Amazon River is mixed with earth, sea water is clear, no? As the island erodes, would not more earth begin to get mixed in with the sea water. It is not conceivable that the island would collect earth? I mean, what island wants to disappear!
6.Whereabouts of the transported earth
Hard to believe that the island is collecting earth. Then again, where does all the earth carried to the mouth end up, I wonder. Examine the currents of the water in the vicinity of the river mouth island and search for the wheareabouts of carried earth.

Gravel and mud pushed and flowing downward from upstream pile up near the inlet, making the inlet a shallow area. If the mud is allowed to accumulate over many years, that shallow area may become an island.
