I've always been able to enter this and all other newly added Gran Atlas inland regions (Sahara, Himalaya, Niagara, etc.) without needing to do discovery quests to unlock them in contrast to older inland regions (Giza, Rapa Nui Inerior, and so on). Did they change something recently?

This is based on my experience on GAMA in early 2017, since Episode Atlantis Chapter 3, i think they changed the requirements for entering new inlands with that update. I can enter any of new inlands without doing land charting since. Back then in Chapter 2 "Barca Solar" you still need to do land charting to unlock Caucasus, W. Siberian Plain, Sahara and Zambezi.

IIRC I can enter Causasus, West Siberian Plain, Sahara, and Zambezi without land-charting them

Being able to perform Land Charting is one thing, but making discoveries as a requirement to physically enter an inland zone is quite another. I tested things by visiting the Sahara today and found I could enter it just fine despite not having done the Sahara discovery quest on Maris.

I figure that all new landing points from Gran Atlas (including this one) and beyond are still as easy to enter as always (except those ones in the NE Passage requiring sea charting to sail to, naturally).

However, Nekos is quite correct about the quest and its steps, as he has been with his many other excellent contributions to the DB. Cheers to your diligent work, fellow voyager. /toast
