***Extra Information***

Rank Tech: 4
Consumed Gauge: 120
Range: 100
Scatter Range: 90

It requires two/three seconds before the Tech will be used.
With advanture job this Tech needs only one second till it activates.

Effect:
Aside from damage, your target(s) get "Burn" status. This effect last for at least 20 seconds. This will reduce their defence power by 25 % and they lose 30 stamina per second. Higher Trap Trap increase the piercing power to let the "Burn" -effect happen.

I've learned this from "Bounty lv55" at North Lima after he used this Tech against me. Like other rank 3+ techs this may take a while (approx. 5% success rate). NOTE: This is one of the hardest Tech to get due the rarity of this NPC at this landingpoint. They replace the Conquour lv35 spawning spots.

Another NPC that uses te tech is the ghost lv80 NPC at the hidden room of Rome medium floor dungeon. However getting into that room is also rare.. :(

For those, who're seeking this tech, goodluck and hope you get it faster this way. :-)

OK, noob question that's only slightly off-topic: can you only get R3+ techs from NPCs that use them? You can't get them from any NPC, e.g. from the convenience of colosseum, even with a really really low chance, like you can get R1/2 techs?

I'm sort of peripherally (for now) interested in R3 trade techs, I have the frugality and merch knowledge requirements.

I can't comment about trade techs, but I learned both the R4 Trap tech Wide Pit Trap in a dungeon NPC group room and the R3 Shadow Stitch knife tech in Rome's Colosseum, both without the enemies using those techs on me or my fleetmates. Plus, a friend learned all level bow techs (R1 to R4) in FSD lower floor over the course of a few months, and there aren't very many bow users on the lower floors, if any at all. It seemed like they were just "random drops" to us.

I don't believe H.-Gazi's information is necessarily wrong (and thanks for posting it!). I just wonder if there could be more than one way to learn some techs, besides waiting for a specific enemy to hit you with the desired tech to learn it. By the way, I also saw "Shipwrecked outlaws Lv54 (Korea D)" listed as an NPC who teaches this tech. I haven't been to Songsunri in a while, so I forgot the GAMA name of that enemy, sorry!

As far as i know , you can learn r1 - r3 skills without NPC using them ... as for r4.. not sure yet

@V_I and @lala: To be clear about these questions. R1 and R2 can be randomly learned, which may take longer than if you do by npc using this on you.

However I never experienced to learn R3 randomly, that is nearly impossible (rediclious luck required). There are two trap techs that are probably exception due none of the npc's are using it. Which follows:

- Boulder Drop
- Range Pit Trap

@Egw: There is a lawless merchant at South America Southeast coast that uses all the R3 item-techs that you're looking for. Unfortunate you need to learn it through this method. The problem with trade tech is that you never know whenever they use R3 trade techs, except by watching closely to their animation. So little patience is here required.

Ofcourse more npc's can use this techs, but Japanese wiki doesn't work properly for most of us. :( Hope this helps!

Alright so since it seems some people get R3s coincidentally and others have never had that happen to them, I guess we can go by the working assumption that if we do land battle for any sort of irrelevant purpose (battle exp, skill prof, finesse, dungeon drop etc) then there's an extremely small chance we might get an R3. But if we are specifically after particular R3+ techs, we'd better go find the NPCs that use them.

Thanks guys and btw jap wiki is back on for me at least, after about ten days that I couldn't access it at all.

If you do a websearch of techs by their Japanese names from this very database, you can often find an image of the NPC that uses them, making it easier to recognize them in the game. I noticed the Lima NPC and the Songsunri Middle Floor NPC who teach this skill look strangely similar, but for a single level.

By the way, the Japanese wiki (gvo.gamedb.info/wiki) is back for me too, but I had to clear cache before I could see it again. It said this about adv/merch/battle tech gains: "Techniques of up to R2, please do not fill in the available target for that can be learned from all of the enemy at a high probability." In other words, R3 is when they become trickier to learn, meaning specific NPCs are more likely to teach a tech than others. As with all things UWO related, the best we can do is estimate, and report what we've learned/know for certain.
