Can someone tell me how Mentor Points work?
How do I get em and what are the bonuses.Just saw one guy with 175/250...

When you form a fleet, under Fleet Management, there is a button marked "Mentor". Perform it towards a player, and they become your 'apprentice' (marked with a green Beginner School-styled shoot), while you become their mentor (marked with a fully grown tree). I've gotten mentor points from:

Sinking NPC ships (1 point per ship, but I used AoS due to the test fleet not being equipped for battle)
Reporting Quests (2 to 3 points when you, the mentor, report them personally -- may have to be a certain range in the difficulty star category)

Note that you can only Mentor someone while in a city, not at sea, in the docks, or at landing zones. That's all I've learned so far. Additionally, it looks like (according to JP site images) the Mentor equipment is awarded at certain levels of mentorship, and is non-tradeable.

I've also found that at 30 days at sea for the apprentice (NOT mentor, and not tied to the 30-day interest timer), the mentor gets 3 points. It's possibly 60 days may give 3 more (or 6 more--doubtful though), though I haven't been sailing a long enough distance to reach 60.
Large profit from trade good sales also adds a few points (and the apprentice has reduced tariffs).
Both apprentice and mentor receive more EXP and fame from reporting quests themselves, but not the shared fame from both reporting quests. The difference is negligible, though. Something on the order of 10% though I have not done any math to figure it out.
Also, I thought the mentor received points when the apprentice reported quests, but I might be mistaken. Definitely not all quests give points, though I can't seem to find a pattern.

As for what they do, other than rewarding you with gear and a small boost when turning in quests? No idea yet.

Also, not sure why but my speed comes up orange as if it were handicapped like the adjusted skills. It may simply be negating oxfords, but I doubt it.

I would also like more information on this, to see if I'm wasting my time with it or not.

I myself bought some Mentor's gloves from Sevilla CS (+1perfume/+1persuasion; look like Lace Gloves, from the map in the archives of Ambon/Ternate).
