그 좁은 해협의 이름의 유래는 그리스 신화라네. '암소의 도섭' 이라
는 뜻이지. 제우스는 불륜의 상대였던 이오를 암소로 변신시켜, 아내
인 헤라를 속이려고 했지만, 헤라는 그것을 알아차리고 등에를 풀었
다네. 이오는 소의 모습을 한 채, 등에로부터 도망 다니다가 헤엄을
쳐서 해협을 건넜다네 ... , 뭐, 그런 이야기라네.

인지 진로를 잡기가 어렵다네. 조금만 방심해도 암초에 걸려버릴 정
도로 좁다네. 해협이라기보다는 넓은 강이라고 하는 편이 어울릴 거
네 ...

That which is around the channel

그 해협은 비잔틴 제국과 오스만 투르크의 싸움의 흔적이 많아 남아
있습니다. 해협의 북쪽의 가장 좁은 부분에 있는 2개의 요새는 오스
만 투르크가 그 해협을 봉쇄하기 위해 만든 것이라고 합니다. 그리고
비잔틴 제국은 바다에 쇠사슬을 설치해서 방어를 강화했던 모양입니
다.
