For those who don't know where The Azores is... you guessed right :) It's a long journey, though. Stack up on provisions for about 2 or 3 weeks. Bring the Surveying skill or an item to make sure you're going in the right direction.
Furthermore, the shape indicated on the maps are inaccurate. In-game, the islands look more like the Balearic islands; a circular triplet.

They are actually very accurate to the real deal, 3 islands each of them representing one of the three group of islands: Flores, Terceira and Sao Miguel

The Azores port can be in reality on of these towns/islands:
Madalena - Pico Island Or Velas - Sao Jorge Island
I think is Madalena But can be Velas too.
I was there in 2008 in all islands less Corvo, and in 2009 I was on Madeira. I recommend to everyone who want to visit any island to visit Azores.

I don't know if this is new or longstanding, but autosailing with tow permits to the Azores seems to be glitched. It takes less permits to travel from Istanbul to Azores than from Istanbul to Seville. Tried from other towns and its the same. Cheaper to Azores than to other, closer locations. Weird

Azores was in the target waters for Commercial Battle License. If your nation was ranked 1st or 2nd in merits, you would get a bonus of reduction in tow permits used. Morro, if you English or Spanish, that would explain it.

It does explain it. That is a rather nice little perk for those who sail a lot

People sail in this game? I thought they just sat in Seville.
