                            스카라베는 신성한 딱정벌레로 동물의 배설물을 굴려 구슬로 만들어 알을 낳는 습성이 있는 곤충을 말한다. 고대 이집트에서는 배설물을 굴리는 모습이 태양의 운행을 연상시킨다고 하여 신성시되어서 부적의 모티브로 많이 사용하였다.
