1. Tradition that remains in Aotearoa
Your report was very interesting. Especially the part about the folklore passed down in Aotearoa! That's why I want you to go research this folklore again. I especially want you to do whatever you can to find this place called "Hawaiki".
They even go so far as to call this place the eternal land, so it must be pretty amazing!

2. "The great migration" Heke"

Okay, but don't be disappointed... When we die our spirit travels to the northern tip of the island. Then we follow the roots of the pohutukawa tree into the ocean. Then, according to legend, we return home to Hawaiki. Although, you don't look like you're from around here so... even if you try finding it this way it might not work...

6. That which tradition cannot impart
Hahaha, that's hilarious! But you know, I've always thought it was pretty strange too. If our ancestors came here from Hawaiki in canoes, Why is it that the only way we can get there is by dying? There's even a legend that tells of a man named Kupe who takes some birds from this island back to Hawaiki back with him...

7. A place that cannot be returned to
So that's when I thought, it must be easy to come from Hawaiki but hard to get back there. So I suppose that even if we want to go back we can't but our spirit can once we die...
This is just a guess, but what I'm about to say is even more of a guess. Still wanna hear it?

8. An inconvenient direction
So, to get back to Hawaiki I figure you have to think about the most difficult conditions for both the ocean currents and the wind direction. The currents run to the south-east off the eastern coast of the island, so that eliminates the south-east. So then, the wind usually blows to the north or to the west. So that means the most difficult conditions possible would be to the north-east of here. Of course, I wouldn't count on anything I just said. It's all just a guess.

9. Unchanging land
I gathered all the information I could about Hawaiki in Wanganui but I wasn't able to find out its exact location. However, the story of how people migrated in from Hawaiki has been faithfully passed down throughout the generations. I think there must be a high probability of a place that corresponds to Hawaiki existing. A sailor I spoke to thought it might be to the north-east of Aotearoa... I wonder if there's any truth to that?
