1. Gaining favour with "Bread"
Going from a Republic to an Empire, Rome carved expanded her territory and the food supply and lifestyle became rich. The nobility and the Emperor offered free fod to the people and became popular. This is the "Bread" from "Bread and Circus".

2. From "bread" to "circuses"

In particular. the fighting competitions were a serious fight where the swordfighters' lives were on the line. The preparations were flawless and it was reproduced in the forests of Africa and the ocean. Thinking about it now, it wasan incredible stage setting. 6. Thumb that indicates death
Cheers! That serious fight was a fight to the death, upon which the curtains would hang. That decision was up to the people. 8. Bread and circuses
The Roman citizens were so fond of the Circus because it offered a stage where they could put there lives on the line and was even a place they could express themselves freely. There was also a Coliseum at Bombei apparently. We shall have to go investigate.
