              Da Vinci's anatomical drawings

It seems that Da Vinci who lives in Marseilles has made a curious drawing of the human body. This could turn out to be an important event. Could you please meet him and find out what kind of work his is?

                            Human body, circles and squares
You want to know what the anatomy chart I drew is like? All I did was illustrate the ancient Roman empire architect Vitruvius's saying from his "Dearchitectura" books that "the human body is inscribed with circles and squares.

                            Scholar's explanation
When you spread yours arms out completely, the width from on hand to other, i.e. your "wingspan", is equivalent to your height, and can be expressed as a square.
Furthermore, if you spread your legs so your height decreases your legs so your height decreases to 1/14 of its size, then spread your arms and raise your middle finger to the very top of your head, your belly button will be the exact centre of the circle created by your limbs. This Vitruvius's theory as described in his "Dearchitectura" books.

                            Impressions of Da Vinci
A human body that spreads out its arms and legs can be shown to fit within either a square or a circle.
Da Vinci was a strong believer in the theory, and used it in his own illustrations. If you're looking for the anatomy chart, it should be stored in the Venice Library. Go over there and see it for yourself.

                            Realm of the genius
da Vinci's anatomy chart is on top of this desk.
Of course, it's near impossible for a layman to understand the work of genius...
Everything written underneath the picture is backwards, making it difficult to read... I can barely understand any of it.

Human body as drawn by Da Vinci
"The human body can be inscribed with a circle and a square.".
That saying, coined by the ancient Roman Empire architect Vitruvius, is the principle that da Vinci used to create his anatomy chart.

Da Vinci rethought the perspective on people shown by Vitruvius, the ancient Roman architect, and represented it graphically. Da Vinci uses this drawing to try to draw people realistically.
