The dignified blue flower
No Expiration
Calicut Adventurer's Guild
I heard somethin' about that island in the Far East you went to... Apparently there's a dignified lookin' blue flower that blossoms over there. Someone hosting a tea party wants to use it as a conversation starter. Could ya start off by gatherin' info at the tavern in Nagasaki?

Violet that blooms in the Wild
A dignified blue flower? Maybe... It is the one that is shaped kind of like a star? As a bud, all of the petals are stuck together. Looks kind of like a balloon. Then it opens into the star shape. Come to think of it, I heard the Barkeep there call it one of the seven flowers. Something about eating it. Hey, how's the taste?

The root is edible
The 7 flowers you can eat are the 7 flowers of spring. That flower is one of the 7 flowers of fall. The spring ones you can put in rice gruel and it will rid you of a number of illnesses. The fall ones are for looking at. So I've never eaten it so I don't know how it tastes. Takatsugu might know something.

Also medicinal
Personally I wouldn't think to try and eat something that looks so nice. But I heard from a scholar once that the root of that flower can be made into medicine. They say that good medicine always tastes bad, so I imagine the taste of it is not that good. If you need to know more about its effects, then consult the scholar in Sakai.

The Root's medicinal properties
Ah, so you have been listening to Master Takatsugu. The root of that plant is used as medicine for colds and headaches, as well as other things. If you're researching that flower, I have some information I have put together as well. You may read it.

Flower seen in the manyoshu
In the countryside where it's sunny, you can find a flower with 5 petals. In the Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves it is called Ipomoea nil, or a morning glory and referred to as one of the 7 flowers of autumn. In addition to using its roots for medicine, it has other uses.

Flower of a family crest
It is of interest that it's harmonic appearance has been adopted by many samurai families as their seal. An example of that is the seal of the Toki family. The Toki families traditional lands are in Mino and Hida. Perhaps this flower can be found there.

Location of the violet flower
The flower in question has been in use as medicine and food for quite a long time. There is apparently a land to the east of Sakai where they can be found. I will perform ecological research there. I must land east of the port of Sakai, and search near the white flowers in the deeper area.
