After a Hundred Paces
Hmm, there are a lot dangerous animals in the mountains. Speaking of which, have you heard the rumours about the snake found outside Tamsui? They say if you're bitten by one you'll die withing a hundred steps.

Authenticity of the legend
I don't know how true it is, seeing as no one around me has run into the thing, but there are still rumours. It must be a really poisonous snake. Maybe a scholar could tell you more about it.

About the poison
Yes, it is said that the snake can kill you in a hundred steps, but it's not because the poison is particularly strong... it is simply that the snake releases such a quantity of poison that it is as equally deadly. However, it moves slowly, and I think you are very unlikely to encounter it unless you go into the deepest parts of the mountain.

Characteristics of the snake
Distinct physical traits? Well, I'd say its flat head and short body. As I said before it moves very slowly, but if you get bitten it's very dangerous. Please be careful.

Search for the dangerous snake
There is a snake on the island of Taiwan that is said to kill you within a hundred steps when you are bitten. Use the picture the scholar showed you as a reference to investigate it. Many are said to be found near the table rock in the Tamsui islands. Head out with extreme care.
