Downstream of the Yellow River
We found the bones of the large animal downstream along the Yellow River. We haven't excavated all of it yet, but we predict it is a very large skeleton. But we're perplexed by the facial skeletons, as they are very awkwardly shaped... The opinions among us scholars are divided...

Space between Tusks and the Trunk
At first we all unanimously agreed that it was an elephant with tusks. But the space between each tusk was very narrow, and it appeared too narrow for a trunk to hang through. Opinions that it might not be an elephant began to be asserted, and now our study has been stalled.

Despite its Elephant Characteristics
But as the excavation proceeded it became clear that the face could only be that of an elephant's. So we'd like some persons knowledgeable in biology to take a look at it. I believe we've gathered a bit more information about facial bones. We are also getting some help from a studious youth in Yuntaishan, so try talking to him.

Trunk Hangs to the Outside?
About those bones... after studying the body area of the skeleton, I think it is pretty certainly an elephant. However, the space between those tusks is surely too narrow for a trunk to pass through. It's believed that those tusks were very long, so one scholar proposed that the trunk hung on the outside of the tusks.

Evidence of Crushing
However, among the scholars there are those who opine that the bones may have been pressed together while underground causing the trunks to be squeezed closer together. Moreover, there appears to be evidence that some of the bones were crushed... I think I've told you enough. It would be better to tell you where you can find the remains at this point.

Investigation of Large Animal Bones
The bones of the large animal found near the Yellow River is believed to be an elephant but has caused a debate among scholars due to the lack of space for a trunk to hang between its tusks. According to the youth, the skeleton is located near the Upturned Boulder. Go and investigate.
