                    1. Lightening fall one hundred years ago
About 100 years ago in the Chiang Rai region upstream of the Chao Praya river there was a massive lightning strike. The lightning struck a temple there and a Buddhist stupa there was destroyed. There are many records documenting the lightning strike but that is the only existing record of the stupa being destroyed.

                    2. Indecipherable record
Don't you think that's rather strange? if there was such a bad lightning strike you'd think there would be many records of the damages and casualties caused by it. Otherwise what's the point of having a record of the event at all? I can't imagine that they simply forgot...

                    3. Reason for concealment
I thought maybe there was something in the stupa that was destroyed that they needed to keep secret, but maybe i'm just reading too much into it... Would you mind asking around Lop Buri to see if you can find out anything more about this?

                    4. Something terrible from inside
Oh, the lightning strike from 100 years ago? Yes, supposedly it struck a temple and destroyed a stupa there. Then, something extremely terrifying appeared from the destroyed stupa causing everyone at the time to speak nothing of the event. I wonder what could have been so terrifying to them? I do admit it would be interesting to find out.

                    5. An emerald statue came out from inside
Well! it's quite rare to hear someone talking about that these days. You see, the object that appeared from the destroyed stupa was none other than a Buddha statue made of pure emerald. I suppose it was rather terrifying though... After all, a great war was caused by that statue.

                    6. War caused by a statue
For that reason the king moved the location of where the statue was stored several times. But, every time its location would be discovered and a battle would begin. Out of opinions the king went so far as to move the statue himself without telling any of his subordinates. Ever since then the location of the statue has been unknown to anyone, even to this day.

                    7. White elephant
I don't know if this is related to that at all but, i heard someone say they saw a white statue walking east from Chiang Rai. He even said that because the white statue was presented to the king only it just completely disappeared when he tried to go up to it and grab it.

                    8. Reason for Myanmar invasion
Recently Myanmar has begun to attack the mountainous region north of here. I don't know what they're after. What reason could they possibly have for crossing Sukhothai and Ayutthaya to come all the way down here? I wonder if they are after some kind of treasure or something...?

                    9. Information on the white elephant
A white statue? Now that you mention it i did hear a report of someone that had spotted such a thing in the mountains before. Myanmar began attacking the region after the appearance of that white statue. Maybe that statue is what they're after...

                    10. That which is brought by god of thunder
Apparently the story about the lighting strike from 100 years ago and the emerald Buddha statue that was stored in the destroyed stupa was true. Although, since emerald is not found in that region i think it could actually be made of jade. From the stories i heard around town it seems that many countries invaded the area in attempts to steal the Buddha statue so it was carried by the white statue to be hidden away somewhere north of Gia Dinh. I should head out as soon as possible to see if i can find it.

A Buddhist sculpture made of jade. It is said to come from a pagoda that was damaged by lightening, but the truth of that is uncertain. It is made entirely of jade, but the way it glitters makes it look like it was made of emeralds. That is why it has come to be called the Emerald Buddha.
