Investigation of Mercator
No Expiration
London Adventurer's Guild
Mercator, a geographer in Amsterdam, is working on a map of the world, and is looking for seafarers who have knowledge of the Caribbean. You know that area well, so why not go knock on his door?

The Cayman Islands
Investigation of Mercator

1. Islands of the Caribbean
You are the sailor who will help with mapmaking? I appreciate your help. Right now i am interested in the detailed geography of the area to the west of Jamaica in the Caribbean. I'm going to explain now... I hope you'll understand.

2. West-north-west of Jamaica
...Around here. Here's a note so you don't forget. Look at this to go to verify the geography. If you do a good job, I'll recommend you to a cartography specialist.

3. Explanation of Mercator
According to Mercator's description, the sea region you are headed for is called the "Cayman Islands." Look for an archipelago to the north-northwest of Jamaica and use "Recognition" to gather detailed sea chart information.

The Cayman Islands ★★ (Geography) Exp:360 Fame:180
Islands located to the south of Cuba in the Caribbean Sea. It was also called Tortuga island (which means turtle) when first discovered. The islands are quite lovely with many being made up of coral reefs.

From Japan wiki, this needs 2 pre-quests.
1. Coral Sea
2. The largest island in the Caribbean. (recog 4, geo 6) from London adv mediator.
** From my own experience, after I finished Coral Sea, I burned 40 QMPs but didn't get this quest. So I took The largest island in the Caribbean. After completed, I burned 5 QMPs and then got this one.

Tried pulling this quest after doing the pre-quest "Coral Sea", used 30 QMPs but didn't appear, followed the comments and cleared quest "Largest Island In Caribbean".
Went back and exhausted another 20 QMPs and quest finally appeared.
Weird part is it shows that the quest was already completed and discovery made. How it could have been when I just completed the "Coral Sea" pre-quest is beyond me.

got it at my first try with 9k fame ._. wow im lucky i guess

Recently pulled this quest for a friend who had the Cayman Islands discovery, but not Cuba Island. They were able to accept the quest without incident. That said, I burned through 50-60 QMPs before the quest showed; I think it's really just that rare.
ReaD07-05-2014
this quest...just RARE...using around 30-40 just to spawn this...THING...even with dutch language(notes or skill)
jperana07-05-2014
don't have dutch, just used notes, got it around 10 qmps only ahahaha.. r20 luck
tulkino07-23-2014
err i have 63k fame and just finished the pre quest, i only needed 5 QMPs, im guessing luck should be in play....
Grimmturd10-15-2014
This is repeatable.

Got this quest without any use of QMP from London.
I had "Ocean Explorer" as job, 129k adv fame and had all 3 requirements (+ prequest).
Not sure if that happens again, so have to check x)

Very odd, I've never done this quest before but when I pulled it it said I had done it before. It looks like this quest gives you the same discovery as the "Coral Sea" quest does, just by looking at the quest info on here, which I guess explains why it shows I've done it. But why would two different quests give you the same discovery?
Guilder02-08-2015
That's because this quest involves re-discovering the Cayman Islands, which also doubles as the Coral Sea quest's discovery. In fact, you only need the Cayman Islands discovery in your logbook, and R11 Geography (plus maybe Dutch in case the language helps it generate more often) to pull the quest, and then Geo R11 for the conversation with Mercator; after that, R6 Geography is all you really need to finish the quest (since you are basically repeating "Coral Sea" for the last step). The Hunter job quest works the same way.
bakabaka03-06-2022
could not pull the quest by any means, used lots and lots of QMP
Equiped gear so become r11 at geo, worked just fine.
2nd try at the selecting quest by rteagion thing and it poped
Adam-Lewis10-02-2022
Tried to pull this, did Coral Sea. used 140 QMP no luck. thought as it is the same discovery card could be considered repeating a quest. so i did a quest, pulled with 5 QMp with all requirements meet
