Goddess of slaughter




1. A bizarre god almost become an object of faith.
A peculiar looking idol, eh...? Well, despite it looks many people worship this god. Have a look on the "Theology" shelf. You should be able to find plenty of books that talk about that god here.

2. Kali
She is the goddess of war and takes pleasure in blood, alcohol, and death. She is one of Shiva's wives and she is often depicted in all black. She has four arms and a long tongue coming out from her mouth. Around her waist is a dismembered arm and around her neck is a necklace made of skulls. She is particularly worshipped in the Bengal region.

3. Head to Calcutta
As you know, Kali is a Hindu goddess and wives of Vishnu. It may seem strange to have such a disturbing goddess for people who have grown up in an environment like yours, but if you want to know more about her you should try asking around Calcutta.

4. Ebony goddess
흠, 칼리에 대해서 조사하고 있는가. 이 신에 대해서 전해지는 얘기는 이런 것이라네. 신들과 마신들의 싸움에서 두루가라는 전투의 여신의 얼굴에서부터 칼리가 태어났다고 해. 두르가는 분노로 인해 얼굴이 완전히 검어졌지. 그러므로 칼리도 완전히 검정이지…

5. 마신 라쿠다비쟈
칼리는 전투에 있어서는 정상궤도를 벗어나 있었지. 그 외모도 물론이고 그 강인함도… 그래서 마신들은 자신의 피가 땅에 떨어지면 분신을 낳는 라쿠다비쟈라는 마신을 전투에 투입했지. 하지만 결과 칼리에 의해 퇴치되어버리지. 그럼 그 다음은 어떻게 되었다고 생각해？

6. 피를 빠는 여신
라쿠다비쟈는 칼리와의 전투에서 몇 번이나 상처를 입었다. 전장은 셀 수 없을 만큼의 분신으로 채워져 있었다. 그래서 칼리는 라쿠다비쟈를 통채로 삼켜버리기로 했다. 피카흐르는 라쿠다비쟈는 흐르는 피만이 아니라 몸 안의 피가 전부 빨렸던 것이다.

7. 춤추는 여신
칼리말이죠. 분명히 모두 깊게 숭배하고 있지만 한 가지 흉내 내서는 안되는 것이 있지요. 그것은 라쿠다비쟈와의 전투 후에 피와 승리에 취한 칼리라 계속해서 춤을 추었는데 그 춤 탓에 세계가 흔들려 당장이라도 무너질 듯하게 되었지요…

8. 밟는 여신
하지만 아무도 칼리를 멈추게 할 수가 없어서 칼리의 남편인 시바가 뒹굴며 지면 대신에 자신을 밟게 했지요. 전투에서 승리를 가져오는 것은 멋지지만 자신의 남편 위에서 춤을 추어서는 안되죠… 이 도시의 교외지역을 찾아보면 칼리상이 발견될 지도 몰라요.

9. 힌두의 불길한 여신상
힌두교에는 칼리라고 불리는 불길한 여신이 있다. 그 외모도 관련된 얘기도 불길한 것뿐이었다. 캘커타의 교외지역을 찾아보면 칼리 상이 발견될 지도 모른다고 한다. 남쪽의 기울어진 바위를 중심으로 찾아보도록 하자.
