1. 석가는 챠가족의 왕자였다
석가는 북인도에 살고 있던 챠가족의 왕자로 태어나, 유복한 생활을 보냈습니다. 그러나 성인이 된 후, 신분을 버리고 출가, 깨달음을 얻어 붓다라고 불리게 되었습니다. 사후, 여래로서 신앙을 얻게 됩니다. 고어에는 아주 오래된 시대의 불상들이 남아있지요.

2. 신앙의 대상이 된 시조
불교의 시조인 석가는, 깨달음을 얻은 존재로서 신앙의 대상이 되었다고 한다. 처음부터 신의 아들이라 불린 예수나, 어디까지나 예언자에 불과한 메흐메드와는 다른 것 같다. 고어의 사원에 오래된 시대의 불상이 있다고 하니 조사해 보자.
