1. 털이 아름다운 맹수
범은 사바나의 나무 위에서 찾을 수 있습니다. 나무에 올라가는 것이 특기인지라, 저는 범이 걸어다니는 것을 본 적이 없답니다. 털이 매우 아름다워서 가죽은 지위가 높은 분의 의상에 사용됩니다. 잡으러 가실 정도라면 더 자세히 아시겠지만요.

2. 낮에는 조용히
범은 낮에는 거의 움직이지 않는 것 같더군. 먹이를 잡을 때에는 나무 위에서부터 습격, 먹이를 다시 나무 위로 끌고 올라간다던데. 가끔 나무 위에 범이 쓰러뜨린 것이라 짐작되는 임팔라가 걸려 있지. 이 도시의 남남서에서 상륙한 부근에서 자주 볼 수 있다네.

3. 야행성 맹수
범은 야행성에, 주로 나무 위에 있다고 한다. 소팔라의 남남서로 상륙하면 될 것이다. 남쪽의 사람형 선인장 부근을 중심으로 조사하기로 하자. 야행성이라고는 해도, 눈치를 채면 습격할지 모른다. 충분히 주의하자.
