Yes, if you look under the quest chain section it shows the pre quests that must be complete before this one.

Two PreQ's, 90 regular QMPs and 15 port resets to Athens, Alexandria and (shudder) Istanbul later, I was wondering that myself.

dunno maybe i catch up bug or something, but get this quest without two other ones, but can't enter there... and then did first one, now trying to get second one, but ussless ((( used more then 100 QMPs, have 40k adv fame...
anyway needed it just for search favorite, so think now to do some other job, going as main TH...

Well, with 50k+ adv. fame, 50 adv lvl, and 8 arch/5 recog, I'm having trouble getting it to appear as well (even with boosters and Greek lang). Funny, 'cause "Troy" (quest #2) showed up a day after I found the Illiad, and my levels/ranks were much lower then. I don't remember ever seeing this particular quest without doing #1 and #2, though.

Almost 50k adv fame, no greek but translation note used, search 7+2, archeo 8+3. I used 4 qmps to get it.

"Troy" took me a lot more effort.

Using a Letter of Appreciation from Seafarers item and selecting the job endorsement benefit means you can pick up certain job cards from NPCs at sea for a set period of time. The Archaeologist card can be obtained from Diogo Ortiz (Portuguese NPC sailing in a fleet of x3 Galleons from Porto to Lisbon) this way, without having to go through the Troy chain -- you will probably want to do it one day all the same, but it's nice to have other options. Cheers.
