Then we join together any two sets of five where one has the same first letter as the fifth letter of the other. Then we'll get rid of either the first or fifth letter so that the two sets are connected like a circle. Sounds plausible, right?

                      Deciphering the hint
                      "The truly unique" must be referring to the letters. after connecting the sets together there should still be some letters that come up more than once, so we should get rid of all but one of them. "As one's life moves from birth towards demise"... This sounds like it's talking about some kind of order. Since we're dealing with the alphabet here, maybe we should put letters in alphabetical order.
