Legend of the Labyrinthos
No Expiration
Venice Adventurer's Guild
A lot of real place names appear in Greek mythology, but one scholar is convinced that ALL of those places are real, and he wants to prove it by finding the Cretan Labyrinth! You'll want to consult a scholar in Athens for this job.

1. The Labyrinth of Crete
The Labyrinth is the place that King Minos of the island of Crete had made by Daedalus, the famed Craftsman. It is said that it was built to imprison the Minotaur, borne by King Minos' wife. But, this is all just myth of course. If you're interested in mythology, might you look at some of the religious books in my library?

2. Lineage of King Minos
King Mino's father was the great god Zeus. His mother was Europa. Zeus changed into the form of a bull, abducted Europa, and King Minos was borne on the island of Crete. Minos' wife, Pasiphae, was the daughter of the sun god, Helios. Minos and Pasiphae had four sons and four daughters.

3. Labyrinth construction
A curse was placed on Pasiphae, King Minos' wife, after he broke a promise that he made with Poseidon. Pasiphae was made to fall madly in love with the bull and she and the bull had a child, a half-man, half-bull monster. The Labyrinth castle was built by the hand of Daedalus to contain this minotaur.

4. The escape of Daedalus
Daedalus called onthe hero Theseus to eliminate the minotaur. The angry King Minos imprisoned Daedalus in the Labyrinth, but he escaped by using was to build wings from the feathers of birds. His son, Icarus, flew too close to the sun and the wax holding the wings together melted, plunging him to his death in the sea.

5. Go to Crete
I know a little about the stories of Minos, but i don't think the Labyrinth really exist. Would it satisfy your curiosity of you went and checked for yourself? But i think you may be called a fool... crete is a narrow island that spreads to the east and west and is located to the southeast of here. There is a town called Candia. Go there.

6. Many people should have been living
It is said to have been active in trade in the Mediterranean from before ancient Greek times. Judging from its location, it's certain that it was involved in trade. There may have been cities or even a state. But, a labyrinth... Why not ask someone else?

7. The end of King Minos
I'm not an expert so i don't know for sure, but i heard that Minos was a tyrant. He pursued Daedalus from the labyrinth all the way to Sicily to try to catch him, in the end dying there himself. You might find some clue if you went to Syracuse on the island of Sicily.

8. Decayed kingdom
I know a lot about Greek mythology because i use them a lot in scultures. Minos pursued Daedalus to this island, but a princess who Daedalus yearned for conspired with him to kill Minos. Minos' son claimed his throne but the kingdom fell into decay. Labyrinth? That's just a myth, it can't be real!

9. A myth consistent with real geography
Minotaur, Daedalus... Such myths sound like so much nonsense. But the island and place names are the same today. It wouldn't be surprising if there was a kingdom similar to this in Crete. I don't know about a labyrinth, but there might have been a palace. Return to Candia and proceed inland from the outskirts to investigate.

This quest is one of the requirements to accessing the "Endless Dungeon", the Labyrinth of King Minos. Once discovered, three possible routes to the Labyrinth -- and for that matter, to chase the rumored phantom continent, Atlantis -- will exist, two of which need this quest to be completed beforehand. You can check some of the details under comments posted here: uwodbmirror.ivyro.net/eg/main.php?id=85000086
I expect a proper guide to the Labyrinth (access, drops, etc.) will be written in the future. When it is, I hope someone will link to it from here. Hope this helps... cheers, and great voyaging online to you.

This quest is required for charting land.
Xiaois05-17-2016
So apparently, i created an alt and following ogplanet website instructions, ie complete at least one class of intermediate school, complete this quest and on bouns charted whole of northern europe, he still doesnt have acesss. Theres probably some hidden requirements for land charting.
Visitor05-17-2016
How is your alt's progress with Oxford? I suspect you must also begin that sequence of events, given the Professor's familiarity with your character during the dialogues when you start the land survey quest to Candia.
Xiaois05-17-2016
Hm. it didnt have much thesis submitted for oxford. Alright ill try and see how it goes
Xiaois05-17-2016
Ok did 51thesis have accessed to the 4th category of oxford still didnt get it unlocked. What im guessing is most probably acessing the artic waters as thats the only world atlas event that i didnt unlock for my alt. which inturn requires EA permit.

Is this quest repeatable?
Want to try and pull it for an alt who is never going to level arch/theo, but want to be sure before I blow some QMPs on it.
Visitor02-15-2017
It is, and can be done as many time as you wish. When you arrive in Venice, simply enter via the Harbor, and speak to the Craftsman to create an ornament of the Knossos Palace discovery. With the card sacrificed to make the ornament, this quest will then show up in the list of quests again without fail. How quickly it chooses to do so is another matter, of course.

The May 2017 update for UWO in Japan will introduce a number of changes to relax gameplay restrictions for players new and old. Among them, this quest's skill requirements will be changed to:
R1 Recognition/Archaeology/Theology
This will make it much easier to access Land Charting, among other things. But I guess with a year to go before it reaches GAMA, there's no rush to mention all the big changes yet.

IIRC the king Minos thingy is a reward from the professor in Oxford after you've done some first bits of land charting.

As Guilder states before, this quest's skill requirements has been relaxed to:
r1 Recognition/Archaeology/Theology
